The Reds travel to Coors Field to take on the Colorado Rockies on Monday. Coming off a series win aginst the Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati looks to continue their streak of winning the opening game of a series.

Game 1:

Monday night would see Andrew Abbott square off against Ryan Feltner. Abbott is looking to rebound from a not so stellar start last time out. Colorado would jump out to a 1-0 lead on an Elehuris Ruiz single that would score Brendan Rodgers. Abbott would get out of the inning, stranding runners on 2nd and 3rd after striking out Jacob Stallings. The Reds would tie the game in the top of the 2nd, Spencer Steer would score on a ground ball double play from Tyler Stephenson. The Rockies would go scoreless in the 2nd, due in part to an excellent defensive play by Elly De La Cruz, throwing out Hunter Goodman on a tough backhand play near shallow left field.

In the 3rd inning, Elly De La Cruz would rope a RBI double to left field and be followed up by a Jeimer Candelario home run to right, giving Cincinnati a 4-1 advantage.

Bottom 3, Brendan Rodgers would hit a solo home run, cutting the Reds lead down to 2. Later, Jacob Stallings would hit a single up the middle that would score a run, making it a 1 run game. The Reds offense would come alive in the 4th. Will Benson would hit a 2 RBI double, scoring Stephenson and India, making it a 6-3 game. TJ Friedl would later drop a single in front of the Rockies right fielder, scoring Benson, 7-3 Reds. Jake Fraley would hit an RBI groundout, Reds now lead 8-3. Next inning, Will Benson lifted a sacrifice fly that would score Nick Martini. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded, Spencer Steer would hit a 2 run single. Cincinnati now leads 11-3. Finally to top it off, Tyler Stephenson would hit a 2 run home run in the top of the 9th innings that would give us our final. Reds 13, Rockies 3. The Reds offense had their best game this season and their 18 hits are the most since May 26th, 2023.

Andrew Abbot performed well. He would go 6 innings, allow 7 hits, walk 1 and strike out 6 while allowing 3 earned runs. Below is David Bell on Andrew Abbott’s start in Colorado.

Reds Promote Blake Dunn before Tuesday’s game

Game 2:

Tuesday nights game had Frankie Montas taking on Ty Blach. Montas would be dominant Tuesday night. In the top of the 1st. Spencer Steer would continue to be red hot, ripping a double to right field, scoring Stuart Fairchild. Montas would toss 2 perfect innings. Elly De La Cruz would launch a solo home run to center field off Blach, giving the Redlegs a 2-0 lead. Elly is starting to warm back up, after a slow month of May. Luke Maile and Stuart Fairchild would each have an RBI single in the 4th, giving Cincinnati a 4-0 lead.

Montas was phenomenal tonight. He wouldn’t allow a base runner until the 5th, and carried a no hitter into the 7th. Elias Diaz would break up the no no with a double to lead off the 7th. Montas would go 7 innings, allow just 1 hit, no earned runs, and strike out 9. Montas is the first visiting pitcher in Coors Field history to allow only 1 hit in 7 innings, while not allowing a run

Cincinnati looks to go for the sweep on Wednesday afternoon.

Game 3:

Graham Ashcraft would start for the Reds versus Dakota Hudson on Wednesday afternoon. Ashcraft looks to put the Reds in position to sweep the Rockies, after winning their first series in Coors since 2016. Ashcraft would struggle early, the Rockies would put 4 runs on the board in the 1st inning. 3rd inning, Jeimer Candelario would hit his second 2 run home run of the series, cutting the Rockies lead down to 4-2.

In the bottom of the 3rd, Elly De La Cruz would make another phenomenal defensive play that would potentially save a run. Shades of Derek Jeter on a jump throw falling into left field.

In the 5th, TJ Friedl would tie the game at 4 on a 2 run home run, his 2nd of the season, bringing the Reds back into the mix. The Rockies would regain the lead in the 5th on an Elias Diaz home run, Rockies now lead 5-4. Diaz would come through again in the 7th, knocking in another run on a single, giving Colorado a 6-4 advantage and later followed by a Brendan Rodgers sacrifice fly, now 7-4 Rockies. The rally Reds look to make a comeback. In the 8th, Jacob Hurtubise would hit a triple to right field scoring Jake Fraley, followed by a Jonathan India sacrifice fly. Reds trail 7-6. In the 9th, the Reds bats would come alive once again. Spencer Steer would blast a 2 run go ahead homer, giving the Reds an 8-7 lead. Later in the inning after loading the bases, Jonathan India would launch his second grand slam of the season. The Reds blow it open, winning the game and completing the sweep with a final score of 12-7.

The Reds return home on Thursday, taking on the Chicago Cubs. The Reds have won 9 of their last 12 games and consecutive series. They win 2 of 3 in Chicago the series prior.
