The Chicago Cubs improved to 31-31 on the 2024 campaign last night with a 7-6 win over the Chicago White Sox (15-47). The Cubs won both home games in Chicago’s Crosstown Classic with back-to-back comeback victories and handed the White Sox their 13th straight loss.

On Tuesday night at Wrigley Field the Cubs found themselves down 5-0 in the 4th inning to the last place Southsiders. Luckily for the Cubs, the game went into a 42 minute rain delay and the Northsiders were able to reset. The comeback started in the bottom of the 5th with an RBI double by Dansby Swanson. Christopher Morel cranked a 403 ft 2-run HR in the 6th to cut the deficit to 5-3. In that same inning, Craig Counsell called on Patrick Wisdom to pinch hit with a runner on first. Wisdom answered the call by ripping a 2-run HR that ignited the crowd and tied the ball game at 5-5. Luis Robert Jr. answered right back in the top of the 7th with a 448 ft moonshot and the Cubs found themselves trailing 6-5. Ian Happ came up clutch in bottom of the 8th with a 2-run RBI double and gave the Cubs their first lead of the night 7-6. The Cubs were able to hold onto their 1 run lead thanks to Hector Neris, who earned his 8th save of the year.
Wednesday night at Wrigley was Deja Vu as the Cubs found themselves down 5-1 in the 4th yet again. This time the comeback was earned by two sacrifice outs by Cody Bellinger, a called Balk, and a Wild Pitch. But as the saying goes… they don’t ask how, the ask how many. The Cubs were able to take a 6-5 lead in the 7th by another clutch RBI by Ian Happ. Yet again, the Sox tied the game up with a solo HR by Paul Dejong off of Hayden Wesneski. The scene was set for a dramatic ending with the game tied at 6 in the bottom of the 9th. Mike Tauchman was leading off in the bottom of the 9th when he took a 1-0 pitch by Kopech deep to center and won the game on a walk-off HR.
