What Will OJ Simpson’s Legacy Be?

OJ Simpson the decorated former Heisman Trophy winner, has passed away at the age of 76 from Cancer. Simpson who was acquitted of murdering his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her boyfriend Ron Goldman in 1994.

His legacy will forever be remembered for his sensational murder trial, instead of his storied football career.

Simpson did break many racial barriers, with his football career with the Buffalo Bills, as well as in television commercials for Avis Rental cars. He won the Heisman Trophy with the USC Trojans in 1968, and also gained fame when he was married to Nicole Brown Simpson in the late 1980’s.

His murder trial which was broadcast on live TV in 1994, where many people were in utter shock when, he was acquitted was the trial of the century in many law circles. Simpson’s trial sparked debates for many years, on racial injustice, domestic abuse, police racial abuse for many years.

Although he was acquitted of his murder trial in 1995, but his civil trial in 1997 ordered him to pay 33.5 million to the relatives of Nicole Brown and Ronald Simpson, which they haven’t received to this date.

10 years later Simpson, accompanied buy 5 armed gunmen stormed into a Las Vegas hotel room to retrieve, his sports memorabilia . He was arrested and charged with 33 years, but was later paroled in 2017.

Simpson’s NFL career was legendary. He played 11 years, 9 of which were with the Buffalo Bills. He rushed for 2003 yards in 1973 which made him the first running back to do so, and was a record back then. In his career, he rushed for 11,236 yards.

His legacy will be remembered for decades. His murder trials will what most people will remember him for rightfully or wrongfully, but his football career needs to be documented .
