The Boston Redsox open up a 3 game series against the Oakland Athletics tonight.
The Redsox starting pitchers after 4gms have a combined 1.64 ERA.
GM 1 Starters
Tanner Houck 0-0
Joe Boyle 0-0
GM 2 Starters
Brayan Bello 1-0, 3.60 ERA, 5IP, 2K’s
Alex Wood 0-1, 16.20 ERA, 3.1IP, 3K’s
GM 3 Starters
Nick Pivetta 0-0, 1.50 ERA, 6IP, 10K’s
Ross Stripling 0-1, 7.20 ERA, 5IP, 6K’s
I know the A’s are the laughing stock of MLB, but they are a MLB team and you can’t take a series off.
JD Davis has a slash line of .385/.1.313/2/2
Sean Langeliers is .333/.697/0/1
and finally Ruiz .429/1.233/0/1
Those are their best offensive players in the early season.
The Redsox middle of the lineup needs to wake up. Their 3-5 hitters are a combine .167 BA with 12K’s. The whole lineup is at .229 with 41K’s.
The other major problem with the Redsox is malcontent Kenley Jansen. He spent spring training doing more complaining about the team than playing. If he doesn’t want to be here, then trade him. He’s not a lockdown closer like Dennis Eckersley. He’s more of a John Rocker. Can be lights out one game and the next walk 2 or 3 guys and blow 2 before closing out another game with a save.
If they do trade Jansen then look for Chris Martin or Justin Slaten to be the closer.
Hopefully the Sox bats get hot this series and they can take at least 2 out of 3gms.
