Women in baseball part 3 these red, white, & blue girls are stars

Since the 1800s women are making their marks in the game of baseball, in more modern times these ladies are at all kinds of levels be it in broadcasting as well as coaching, managing, hitting instructors, scouts, assistant general managers, general managers and even a couple owners.

Everyone familiar with the name Mo’ne Davis? Well if you’re not; Mo’ne Davis became a baseball sensation in 2014 during the Little League World Series. A phenomenal pitcher throwing a 70 mph fastball for her Philadelphia team. Davis became the first girl to pitch a shutout in Little League World Series history. She even made the cover of Sports Illustrated at 13 years old. A star was born.

Her focus now is to use her platform to launch her life into the next chapter and expand her reputation beyond her teenage identity. She attended Hampton University on a softball scholarship and studied journalism, last fall she attended Columbia University and is studying sports management, she is gunning for a front office gig in her future. Broadcaster, aspiring owner, role model, grad student. Those titles all apply to Mo’ne Davis in 2024.

Kelsie Whitmore, a 24 year old two way player.

A right handed relief pitcher on this night jogged to the mound and four pitches later was out of the jam, getting the batter to pop out.

Similar opportunities play out in MLB parks across the country every night. During this at bat before a crowd of 735 fans, turned out to be historic. Whitmore was the first woman to pitch in the Atlantic League a 10 team independent professional league on par with the highest level of minor league baseball.

The next night she played LF and went 1 for 3, this raises an interesting question. If women can pitch and play the outfield in the country’s top ranked independent league, will we soon see a woman in MLB? Fans would like to see it I’m sure (I would) and hopefully someday a dream is gonna come true for one of these young ladies.
