Nashville, TN: It was once again Toyota prevailing but this time they had to do it versus each other. Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) has seen 23XI win a staggering 5 times with Tyler Reddick. 23XI co-owner Denny Hamlin was the guy leading at the checkered flag.
It was far from easy for Hamlin though. After qualifying was rained out the 11 car was granted the pole position but he didnt last long in the lead. On the initial start of the race Hamlin got the jump on the field by going almost 200 feet before the restart zone. NASCAR deemed that Hamlin did jump the start and would do a pass through.
From leading the race to 38th in a matter of minutes means it was gonna be a slow, steady climb to the front. Most of the positions Hamlin made up were on restarts. Unlike in previous wins where Hamlin clearly had the best long run car it was the short run that Hamlin was best all night.
During the last restart Hamlin was in 3rd behind JGR teammates Christopher Bell and Chase Briscoe. Hamlin quickly jumped to the inside and battled Bell for the next handful of laps where the pivotal moment came.
Briscoe jumped to the outside trying to make it 3-wide but Bell seeing this drove deep into the corner taking away Briscoe line. The 19 backed away but the 20 drifted up the track allowing Hamlin to turn his car better and cleared Bell heading into turn 3.
Hamlin held off from there for his 62nd career NASCAR Cup victory. It was a special one for Hamlin as this was a place he was wanting to check off his list. It also was the 2nd Cup race after former JGR teammate Kyle Busch passed away. In his memory Hamlin delivered that signature bow that Busch made famous.
