The Dallas Cowboys kicked off the 2024 NFL season with a 33-17 win at Cleveland Browns Stadium. This game was not just a win, it was a statement from the Cowboys, answering questions about their offseason.

Dak Prescott’s Performance

Hours after signing a historic four-year, $240 million contract, Dak Prescott demonstrated why the Cowboys paid him. Although he only threw for 179 yards and a touchdown, a 21-yard scoring pass to Brandin Cooks, he showed he could make good decisions and keep the clock running with a lead . Most impressive was Dak not turning the ball over and putting the Cowboys in scoring position consistently.

Cowboys Defense Dominates

The Cowboys’ defense was nothing short of spectacular. Not only were they able to stop Cleveland from scoring, they put the offense in good position throughout the game. Micah Parsons, one of the league’s premier edge rushers, lived up to his reputation, applying relentless pressure on Deshaun Watson. The Cowboys finished with 17 QB hits. The Cowboys one “big” free agent signee, Eric Kendricks, not only added to the sack tally but also intercepted a pass, contributing to the Cowboys victory.

Special Teams Show Out

KaVontae Turpin’s 60-yard punt return for a touchdown was a highlight of the game, almost assuring victory at that point. Brandon Aubrey picked up where he left off last season going 4/4 on field goals including at 57 yarder.

Ezekiel Elliott had a 3-yard TD run for the Cowboys. His return to the Cowboys proved successful as he ran the ball well in short yardage situations and picked up key pass blocks on Myles Garrett.

Dak Signed in 11th Hour

The Cowboys locked up Prescott just prior to the game on a 4-year $240 million deal. Dak’s deal came just two weeks after giving wide receiver CeeDee Lamb a four-year, $136 million contract.

The Cowboys host the 1-0 New Orleans next Sunday in Arlington.
