What have we learned from the first 10 games of the Yankees?

The New York Yankees have started the season 8-2 and have won all three series.

They started the season in Houston on March 28, and waltzed into Houston and swept the Astros with timely hitting, by Oswaldo Cabrera, Juan Soto and Anthony Volpe. The pitching wasn’t stellar but starters, Marcus Stroman, Nestor Cortes, Luis Gil, and Clarke Schmidt battled, and kept the Yankees in the game.

There is some concern for the bullpen, but its early so the panic button shouldn’t be pushed.

Anthony Volpe is hear to stay:

After a lot of hype during Volpe’s rookie season which he struggled mightily, batting .209, he battled through the season and did finish with 20 HR’s and 20 SB’s. As 2024 has begun he has shot out of the gate, batting a scorching .423 with a 1.154 OPS. He is also not striking out as much as in 2023, while getting more walks, and getting on base, as was evident in yesterday’s win vs the Blue Jays. He stole two bases, which is a brand new type of baseball for these 2024 New York Yankees. The season is still early, but there are some comparisons to Derek Jeter.

Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton will be fine:

After the first series vs the Astros, many media and fans were wondering, about Aaron Judge’s struggles at the plate. But he redeemed himself in the series vs Arizona. Hitting his first home run of the year as the Yankees took two out of three. In this weekends series vs the Jays, he hit a big Home run on Saturday night. With the addition of Juan Soto, Judge doesn’t have to carry the team and each every night.

As for Stanton, it looks like his stroke is back as well, after two lackluster series vs the Astros and Diamondbacks, he came back in a big way on Sunday hitting a monstrous Grand Slam vs the Jays, and also contributed three hits on Saturday. Stanton usually has slow starts to the season, so there should be no concern for his slow start.

Juan Soto is hear to stay:

Juan Soto hasn’t disappointed in the 2024 season. When the Yankees acquired Juan Soto, to be the big bat, to complement Aaron Judge, he hasn’t disappointed so far. He is getting key hits in big situations, and also has great discipline at the plate. But his defense has been the key this year, which is not mentioned much. He had a huge play to gun down a runner in the Houston Series that saved a run. He also has been welcomed by the fans, when he took the field on Friday evening, as the Bleacher Creatures gave him a standing ovation. No doubt The Yankees have to sign him long term in the off season, as he will be a star for years.

Caleb Ferguson needs to be the setup man:

With the bad news that Jonathon Loáisiga, will be lost for the year, with a torn ACL, Caleb Ferguson pitching will be needs in the role that Loaisiga has provided. So far his stats have been pretty good to start the season. Through five innings, he has posted a minuscule ERA of 1.80 with a whip of 1.40. The Yankees acquired him in a trade and so far he has been stellar. Ferguson will also help Clay Holmes who has struggled in the closer role. If Ferguson can pitch one inning or so, it saves Holmes from pitching two innings to get the save which has been the case a few times this season.
