Per Adam Schefter, the Buffalo Bills are in the final stages of a trade deal that would see Stefon Diggs, a four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver, being sent to the Houston Texans in exchange for draft picks, ESPN is told.
As part of the trade, the Bills will be acquiring a 2025 second-round pick (originating from the Minnesota Vikings) in return for Diggs, along with a 2024 sixth-round pick and a 2025 fifth-round pick.
This trade follows shortly after Diggs questioned a social media user’s assertion that he was not crucial to Bills quarterback Josh Allen’s success, responding with a simple “You sure?”
For the Texans, this trade represents their latest move to bolster their roster with experienced players, as they aim to support quarterback C.J. Stroud with seasoned talent during this offseason.
Last month, the Texans made a significant trade to acquire running back Joe Mixon from the Cincinnati Bengals and then signed him to a lucrative three-year, $27 million contract extension. They also bolstered their defense by signing star pass-rusher Danielle Hunter to a two-year, $49 million deal with $48 million guaranteed in free agency.
Joining the talented Texans offense are Mixon, wide receivers Nico Collins and Tank Dell, and tight end Dalton Schultz, alongside standout quarterback Stroud, who was the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year. Dell was on track for 1,205 receiving yards in the 2023 season before a season-ending injury in Week 13 against the Denver Broncos. Stroud and Dell combined for 709 passing yards, while Collins ranked eighth in the league with 1,297 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.
Despite attempting to trade for Keenan Allen by offering a Day 2 pick from the 2025 draft, the Texans missed out as he was sent to the Chicago Bears by the Los Angeles Chargers. This move demonstrated the Texans’ commitment to enhancing their receiving options to support Stroud in his second season.
On the other hand, the Bills have parted ways with key veterans this offseason, including Tre’Davious White, Jordan Poyer, and Mitch Morse due to salary cap constraints. Additionally, Gabriel Davis joined the Jacksonville Jaguars, and Leonard Floyd signed with the San Francisco 49ers in free agency.
Stefon Diggs, who had previously expressed his desire to remain with the Bills, signed a lucrative four-year, $104 million contract extension in April 2022. Following his trade, the Bills will incur a dead money charge of $31.096 million next season, as reported by the Roster Management System.
