The Milwaukee Brewers vs Kansas City Royals MiLB Spring Training Prospect Showcase game was the first event of its kind on March 17, 2024, and boy did it ROCK!
The future of the Milwaukee Brewers played the Kansas City Royals’ up-and-comers in a 7 innings televised game. Our most exciting rookie Jackson Churio, who as just signed a 7 year, 8 million dollar contract age 19 and has yet to step on a big league field, was the shining star of the event.
The city of Milwaukee has been buzzing with anticipation for his debut at the home opener April 2nd. He was already the talk of Spring Training but watching him perform for the showcase ignited an inferno of hope for the future of OUR Milwaukee Brewers. The vibes are high in the Cream City.
Other than Churio two other prospects stood out to me: Jacob Misiorowksi and Brock Wilken.

Jacob Misiorowski started the game hot for the Brewers throwing 5 Ks in 2.2 IP. He was drafted 63rd in the 2nd round of the 2022 MLB June Amateur Draft from Crowder College. Some of his other impressive 2023 stats of an ERA of 3.41 and WHIP 1.178. He rose through the minors at an exciting rate in 2023 to become the Brewers No.2 prospect. According to Curt Hogg with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, he throws a bit of everything, a fastball between 95-97 mph, a curveball, a variety of changups, and his specialty: a mean cutter. Misiorowski will probably start at Double-A Biloxi until he can manage some consistency which will hopefully come around within this season or the next.

Brock Wilken 3B drafted No.18 in the first round of the 2023 draft out of Wake Forest. He had 71 college career home runs, the most in ACC history, with a batting average of .299. His last year in college he lead Wake Forest to their first College World Series since 1955, where they lost the round before the championship game. His 2023 season he recorded 31 home runs, 82 RBI, while slashing .345/.506/.807 according to Baseball Reference. The Brewers are hoping Wilken will bring some heavy hitting and will probably have him playing between 3B and 1B. He will most likely start at Double-A Biloxi and will hopefully jump to Triple-A Nashville by mid-season if his success continues.

Jackson Churio was signed by the Brewers at age 16 in 2021, rose to Double-A in 2022 at age 18, and played in his first Triple-A game in 2023 at age 19. Now he is on the Opening Day roster for the Milwaukee Brewers on March 28th against the New York Mets. His 2023 batting totals were 150 Hits, 22 HR, 91 RBI, 44 SB, .283 BA, .338 OBP in 531 at Bats throughout the season. Seeing Churio have these numbers makes me very excited to see what he will do on the Brewers. In the breakout game he made it to second on an error in his first at-bat, popped up the next, had an RBI single and finally a walk. Churio ended spring training leading the team in Hits with 20, and At Bats with 62. We gave him as many chances as we could to prepare him for the real season and he flourished with a .323 BA and 13 runs.
It brings me joy to watch the league create opportunities to give players more looks. Anything to cultivate the young guys working their asses off everyday to get that one chance to secure a contract. A contract that will support their families and live out the dream of playing the beautiful game of baseball for a living.
The showcase game is an accesbile way to introduce these young players to us fans. It gives us an opportunity to get to know their faces and know good things are happening down in the minors. The minor league season can be difficult to keep track of with a huge pool of players and non consistent daily lineups. This game was a hand picked group of players to show off saying, “these are the guys to keep an eye on.”
Good things are happening in the Brewers minor league system. Very soon we will hopefully be seeing Jacob Misiorowski and Brock Wilken’s names rise through the minors. Stay tuned to watch Jackson Churio debut in the big leagues on Opening Day March 28th, and if you’re in the Milwaukee area catch him at his home debut on April 2nd.
If you didn’t get the chance to watch the Milwaukee Brewers MiLB Spring Training Prospect Showcase game I will attach the game via MLB Film Room.
