Could A Montgomery Reunion Be In The Works For The Yankees?

The Yankees missed signing left-hander Blake Snell, who signed with the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday. But could they be reuniting with an old friend?

The Yankees are back in contact with left-hander Jordan Montgomery.

There’s no indication, the Yankees are willing to offer the same deal they offered Snell, which was $150 million over 6 years, but Montgomery’s camp believe, he is comparable to Philadelphia Phillies right hander, Aaron Nola. Philly and Nola agreded to a 7 year $172MM contract earlier this off-season.

The 31 year old Montgomery, knows the Yankees very well. He pitched in the friendly confines of Yankees Stadium between 2017 and 2022. He was traded for Harrison Bader in August 2022, which the Yankees are probably regretting to this day. With the Yankees he posted a win loss record of 22-20 and a ERA of 3.94.

Last season, Montgomery helped the Texas Rangers, win their first World Series title in 2023. He was acquired in a mid-season trade from the St. Louis Cardinals. With the Rangers in 11 starts he posted a 2.79 era, and in the playoffs, his era was 2.90 in 31 innings.
