While speaking to the media on Thursday, New York Jets running back Dalvin Cook expressed frustration with his current role. Cook signed a one-year $7 million contract with the Jets in the offseason, but his contributions to the offense have been limited.

Cook, who has rushed 39 times for 109 yards with no touchdowns and a fumble, acknowledged that he didn’t have a snap count or number of carries in mind when joining the team.

“It wasn’t an expectation of me getting X amount of carries or me doing anything. It was just to come in and be productive. You know, things change, and things happen, and we (are) right here, right now, today.”

SNY, Oct 26, 2023 Dalvin Cook speaks openly about trade rumors: ‘Maybe it’s a good thing’

The former second-round pick hasn’t requested a trade, but he mentioned speaking to his agent about it.

“I think that’s a talk, you know, I sit down with me agent, you know, JD and all of the guys. You know, make it best for everybody. But that’s something that I have to sit down and talk with my agent and JD about.”

Potential Landing Spots for Dalvin Cook

Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns have been hit hard with injuries this season, but the most significant loss by far has been Nick Chubb. Pair this with a murky quarterback situation due to Deshaun Watson’s battle with a shoulder injury. With a great defense and a struggling PJ Walker under center, Cleveland could use a helping hand in the backfield. Jerome Ford and Kareem Hunt have been solid so far, but they are also managing injury problems. The Browns could make this insurance move if the asking price isn’t too steep.

Los Angeles Rams

Another team with a beat-up running back room, the Rams’ are currently using a Darrell Henderson Jr. and Royce Freeman combination. Their first game together went well, totaling 127 yards. However, the four-time Pro Bowler, Cook, could be the next in line if one of these two gets hurt or starts to struggle.

Buffalo Bills

How many great nicknames could NFL fans come up with for a pairing of Dalvin and James Cook? All kidding aside, the Bills aren’t deep in the running back room. James Cook had 14 carries for 67 yards against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Latavius Murray went five for seven yards.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Speaking of the Buccaneers, they are one of the worst running teams in the league. The trio of Rachaad White, Chase Edmonds, and Ke’Shawn Vaughn hasn’t worked well. Only averaging 77.9 yards per game, a flier on Cook might be worth it for Tampa.

Baltimore Ravens

Sadly, the Ravens deal with running back injuries nearly every season. No team understands the value of running back insurance like Baltimore does. They may not trade for Cook, but if he is released, they would be one of the teams to call him.

Other Options for Cook

Here are a few other teams potentially interested in Cook should he become a free agent. The Carolina Panthers have Miles Sanders and Chubba Hubbard. Hubbard has more yards on fewer carries, but neither is a lock for the future. The Panthers aren’t playing to win this year, so they might be willing to give Cook a run.

The Cincinnati Bengals are second last in the NFL in rushing. Cook would not replace Mixon but could be looked at as a backup. Houston and Pittsburgh are long shots, as well. Both teams have struggled on the ground, and the backups have begun to displace the starters.

Time will tell if Dalvin Cook and his agent decide to move on from the Jets. If they do, Cook should certainly have some options.
