Bill Haney Calls For Lifetime Ban From Boxing For Ryan Garcia

Bill Haney is pushing for Ryan Garcia to be expelled from boxing following Garcia’s positive test for the substance ostarine prior to his match with Bill’s son, Devin Haney, on April 20 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

“Clearly … there’s nothing you can do with this guy but get him out of the sport,” Bill Haney told TMZ.

“It’s a terrible thing … it’s a terrible thing for sports in general. It’s a terrible thing for boxing.”

Bill said he was unsure whether his son would ever be interested in rematch with Garcia. Citing both his character as a man and behavior as possible reasons to avoid the rematch.

“You see me with my kids,” the elder Haney said. “I don’t know what to tell them. The Haneys – we’re fair. We believe in hard work, and I feel undermined. For [Garcia] to sign up to [test positive] and now to make a mockery of the sport, it’s just terrible.

In the fight, Garcia knocked down his opponent, current WBC junior welterweight titleholder Devin Haney, three times and won through a majority decision.

Garcia tested positive for ostarine twice, on April 19 and 20.

At Garcia’s request, his secondary samples were examined and confirmed positive for ostarine on Wednesday.

The decision on Garcia’s future now lies with the New York State Athletic Commission, which will determine any suspensions and fines, including the potential for changing his victory over Haney to a no-contest or disqualification.

Despite the positive results from his secondary samples, Garcia maintains his innocence, attributing the substance presence to contamination.

The attorneys for Team Garcia; Paul Greene, Matt Kaiser, Darin Chavez and Guadalupe Valencia – said in a statement that Ryan submitted for a hair sample after the original positive test, it came back negative.

They also pointed to the results of the first test, saying the samples were at “ultra-low levels” that were “in the billionth of a gram range” as evidence Garcia was not guilty of taking performance-enhancing drugs.

“Ryan has voluntarily submitted to tests throughout his career, which have always shown negative results,” the lawyers’ statement said. “He also tested negative multiple times leading up to the fight against Haney.”

We will see what happens next, at the expected hearing with summer with Team Garcia and the NYSAC.
