Browns Make Decision On CB Newsome’s 5th Year Option

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and other sources, the Cleveland Browns have decided to pick up the 5th year option on CB Greg Newsome’s rookie contract.

Newsome was taken with the 26th pick, in the 1st round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

The move guarantees Newsome a base salary of $13,377,000 million dollars for the 2025 NFL season.

Newsome was involved in some controversy last off-season, when rumors got out that he had asked the Browns to trade him to another team.

Newsome had been vocal about his dislike of being played in the slot position on defense.

That all seems to be water under the bridge now, with this news.

Newsome is coming off the best season of his young career, as he had 49 total tackles, 14 passes defended, and the first 2 interceptions of his career.

Having Newsome alongside Pro-Bowl CB Denzel Ward and emerging CB Martin Emerson, means that defensive cordinator Jim Schwartz will continue to have arguably the best starting CB tandem in the entire league.
