DOWN ON THE FARM, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders

The New York Yankees affiliate RailRiders are off to a good start just as the Yankees are. So far Scranton has a 12-6 record and there a few reasons why the “Baby Bombers” are doing well. Lets take a look and see some of the players who are contributing to their success right now.

Pitcher Oddanier Mosqueda is off to a 2-0 start with 13 K in 9 innings of work supporting a 2.00 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP, and opponents only batting .161 off of Mosqueda.

Will Warren’s ERA is nothing to brag about at 5.18, but he has a 2-0 record after 4 games with 20 K in 15 IP and opposing hitters barely hitting over .200, their average against Warren is .207

Clayton Beeter who has 1 inning of MLB experience, Beeter is itching to get back to the big club, but it will take an injury to get him a call back up to the Bronx. Beeter is 1-1 with 18 punchouts in 12.1 innings over his 3 games started in Scranton.

We have relief pitcher Anthony Misiewicz with 2 saves and 3 holds with 12 strikeouts over 7 innings of work. Opposing hitters are batting a miniscule .214 off Misiewicz. He’s definitely been a key piece of the RailRiders bullpen so far this season.

Outfielder Everson Pereira has 14 hits and 6 of come way of the longball with 13RBI. Pereira has lots of pop in his bat, he also stole 2 bases. If Everson Pereira continues at this pace he will be a big factor in the RailRiders’ success this year.

T.J. Rumfield 1B has 15 hits 3 of those hits are doubles, Rumfield has 7 walks and is providing the RailRiders with a good on base percentage of .440. Lots of support for the guys behind him to get some runs batted in.

The next guy I like is Caleb Durbin a shortstop but will likely move to 2B especially if the big club cannot resign Gleyber Torres in the offseason, Durbin is 24 so he’s definitely ready but blocked right now. Durbin is slashing .303/.440/.485, Durbin is also a threat on the bases, he has 10 stolen bases with the RailRiders. Durbin doesn’t strikeout a ton either, he has 8 strikeouts in 66 AB.

Their last ten games the RailRiders are 8-2, they have a +13 run differential to their credit, the surprising statistic to me is they are much better on the road, they are 4-5 at home but 8-1 on the road. The RailRiders look to bounceback from their loss to Lehigh Valley IronPigs losing 9-3, RailRiders will be at home again with Lefty Edgar Barclay on the mound who is 1-0 with a 2.77 ERA.

Baseball is a long season so lots of variables to consider for overall success, but the RailRiders are off to a good start. LETS GO BABY BOMBERS !!!
