5 P’s for Fantasy W’s

Let’s look at some pitchers in fantasy baseball if you’re lucky are on waivers and readily available to stream, even though they’re less than 50% owned.

Spencer Turnbull of the Phillies is 50% owned by Yahoo users. He has 3 starts on the season and won one of those games. In 15 innings Turnbull has sat down 16 via the strikeout while supporting a 1.80 ERA and has a 0.93 WHIP. I never wish injury on a player but I’m hoping Taijuan Walker takes his time rehabbing. If so, Spencer can get some more chances in the rotation. Turnbull has already shown an uptick in strikeouts this season compared to when he was with the Tigers. Go grab Turnbull or the very least stream him accordingly.

We all know Oakland isn’t that great of a team but its a pitchers park and “every dog has its day.” Paul Blackburn also 50% owned has not allowed a run in his 4 starts thus far. Blackburn pitched 25 innings and has 18 K and is 2-0 with a very impressive 1.08 ERA. Paul had a scoreless streak snapped when he gave up 3 runs to the Cardinals Wednesday, the A’s still won the game 6-3 though. Walks were an issue in this loss. He walked 5 batters in 5.2 IP, however the Ks are there Blackburn had 7 K’s in this outing. High risk reward pitcher here guys. If he’s on he can hold the opposing team to limited damage and the hitters support him he could sneak in a W here and there and definitely rack up the Ks at the very least.

Andrew Abbott, Cincinnati Reds big lefty hasn’t allowed more than 2 runs in any of his 4 starts, Abbott has 17 K’s over 23.1 frames. Unlike the A’s the Reds are a powerhouse offensively, we know the run support will be there. Abbott needs to focus on keeping the four seamer right out in the middle of the plate that seems to be his most hittable pitch. Andrew Abbott currently sits nicely with a 2.70 ERA and 1.07 WHIP. If he is unowned even at home I would stream the heck out of this guy.

NY Mets’ Luis Severino is 47% owned by Yahoo managers, Sevy has always had health issues but seems to be at full health in 2024 so far. In 4 starts Severino has 2 wins, with 21 K’s in 21 IP, Luis Severino picked up the W when the Mets beat the Pirates 2-1 Wednesday logging his first quality start in quite some time. Severino threw 96 pitches 61 for strikes. Severino carries 2.14 ERA into his next outing vs San Francisco on the road next week. If he is available ride that Sevy trolley next week (see what i did there).

Streaming relivers is very hard and basically a “guess” if you try and plugin a RP for some points/categories and there’s no real logic to justify this, but it could end up with you getting a W with a RP. You cannot ignore A.J. Minter of the Braves he is 26% owned in Yahoo leagues. Minter thru 9 appearances has 11 K’s over 9 innings with an even 2.00 ERA and insanely good 0.33 WHIP. Some Yahoo leagues have relief wins (RW) as a category so it is also a W for the Win category, if most options are taken for that given day as probable starters go, and Minter is sitting throw him in a P spot, it can’t hurt.

Honorable mentions:  11% owned Ryan Weathers 3-1 record, 2.70 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 22 K in 20 IP. 16% owned Shelby Miller 3-1 in relief work over 7 appearances 8 K in 9 IP with a 1.93 ERA and 0.54 WHIP
