A lot of fantasy baseball drafts players slip through the cracks, some call these players sleepers. Well I tested a theory out tonight and did a few Yahoo public drafts and a mock draft which is basically the same thing. I found there are guys left undrafted with potential to be good producers in a few categories you may need points/stats in.
I need POWER and these 3 players slipped through the cracks and did not get picked. I see you Jose Abreu sitting there wanting to be on my team, OK i got you. Abreu is going to be the 5th hitter in a stacked Houston Astros lineup, Alex Bregman and Kyle Tucker set the table for you big boy, go get me some dingers please… Next up that I noticed undrafted was Rys Hoskins, I get it he was injured last year for a good chunk of time. Hoskins is heathy again and going to be playing in a very hitter friendly ballpark, as their cleanup hitter behind Christian Yelich and William Contreras. Staying healthy here is the key, but what could go wrong here if he stays on the field… NOTHING. Hoskins will rake no doubt about it. Lastly for power I’m taking a flier on this dude, Jack Suwinski of the Pirates, The Pittsburgh Pirates are not exactly known for a ton of offense but hitting cleanup here behind on base machines like Bryan Reynolds .349 OBP and Ke’Bryan Hayes with his respectable OBP of .319. Jack Suwinski hit 26 HR last season and this season is projected to have a similar result with 24 HR.
I need HITS, usually guys that get lots of hits are at the top of the order, Jeff McNeil comes to mind here, McNeill had 158 hits last season and 174 hits the season before that. You have to pick him up if he’s sitting there undrafted. Next up Seattle Mariners 1B Ty France 2021 he had 166 hits, 2022 had 151, and last season France had 147, we could very well give him a nickname “Mr. Consistent.” Lastly this one is a gamble but I have seen Kris Bryant not drafted, a healthy Bryan in Coors field is somewhat exciting to his fans, so health being key here, I take Bryant, I will not look at the seasons he was hurt, but going back to his healthier playing days he was averaging 150 hits a season.
I need STOLEN BASES. First up I see Maikel Garcia from the Royals undrafted, not crazy fast but also in only 123 games Garcia managed to swipe 23 bags. 2024 Garcia is “projected” to get 37 SB, You gotta like that kind of production of steals late in a draft or after. If Jarren Duran of the Red Sox comes to me undrafted I will take him, Duran had 24 stolen bases in just 102 games. Duran is “projected” to get 18, yes not a ton, but this is at the end of the draft and based on 403 plate appearances. I’m good with that, and lets say he plays more than that and has say even 100 more appearances, he could possibly swipe ten more? Going with another Milwaukee Brewer here… I see you Brice Turang. Turang stole 26 bases last season in 404 at bats, like above mentioned Duran, Brice Turang is projected to get 21, not bad for closing out a draft or after its complete.
