Walter Knows What It Takes

If anyone has been living under a rock for the past 10 years would be remiss to not research about the man that has catapulted the Los Angeles Dodgers into becoming baseball’s new “Evil Empire”.

While that is true that MLB rules allows for such teams like the Dodgers to continue to shell out massive contract after massive contract he does know the people it takes to put his teams into a successful position.

The Architect behind it all starts with Andrew Friedman. A wizard genius that first got his start with the Tampa Bay Rays but got hired by the Dodgers in 2014 and they have never looked back: 3 World Series titles, 5 National League Pennants, 13 consecutive Playoff appearances.

But, Walter also knows that a professional team needs a strong business operation as well. Walter’s first hire for the Dodgers was Stan Kasten. Kastsn understood the baseball business side better than anyone and Walter understood this. Kasten has overseen a massive TV deal, signing a player of Shohei Ohtani caliber to leverage global brands in Japan for an additional $70+ million in revenue, etc.

Front Office/Scouting Restructure

The Lakers have for far too long relied on just being “the Lakers” and have not kept up with modern times. Now more than ever the league has shifted to being a more asset positive league and the Lakers have suffered in that for quite a while.

The front office is one of the smallest in the NBA along with college and pro scouting departments been low with employees. The scouting in particular was primarily made up of Joey and Jesse Buss leading the way with 10 others helping.

That will almost surely be reshaped in the coming years. Mark Walter is a man of action but rarely ever speaks. He almost moves in silence but fans need to have supreme confidence that he will make the Lakers into a bigger powerhouse than what they are right now.

What’s Next?

The reshaping is going on behind the scenes with more to come in the summer. It has reported that the Lakers are “planning on making multiple hires” with more to come.

The Lakers President of Business Operations Tim Harris has announced he is stepping down so a hire will need to be made there.

A new day in Laker land is coming just takes time before Mark Walter puts his stamp on the Lakers.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
