Denny Hamlin Delivers

In a day in which he started on Pole, it was apparent early that Hamlin would be a contender, but he didn’t flex his muscle until late.

Hamlin might be the oldest active driver, but his adaptability with the next gen hasn’t slowed down his winning.

Kyle Busch, Joey Logano, Brad Keselowski, and Martin Truex Jr. all have seen or saw their previous success with the last car take a significant dip, at least in the regular season.

Not Hamlin, as he has averaged at least 3 wins every season in the next gen car, including a series leading 5 wins this season.

Incredible, incredible stuff from a seasoned veteran that is just getting better with age.

Execution Plagues Berry, Bowman

Much like what happened at Darlington, the two playoff drivers that experienced the biggest failures of their days were the 48 and the 21 in very similar fashion.

Berry was battling around 15th when he was 3 wide between fellow playoff drivers Joey Logano and Chase Elliott.

Elliott drove into the corner, slid up, and got into Berry’s left rear, causing the Wood Brothers machine to back into the wall. Breaking the tire rod and causing a 2nd straight poor finish to put them in must win territory.

Alex Bowman came into Gateway 19 points behind the cutoff and now leaves 35 back. It was, in all honesty, a 2nd straight terrible week for the 48 team who are now virtually in must win territory along with Berry.

The highest the 48 team climbed up to was to 3rd, and it was on a virtually different pit strategy, but abandoned the call for fresh right sides when the caution flew for Ty Dillon.

It was then that Bowman was found speeding on pit road, which sent him to the tail end of the field and virtually out of any solid finish.

The race also saw the 48 team for the second straight week stumble into a pit road miscue. The jackman dropped the car when the left rear tire wasn’t secure, causing the 48 car to drop from 7th to 30th.

It hasn’t been a very good playoffs for Berry or Bowman, but they have one more opportunity to advance with a win at Bristol.

Quote of the week

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
