Chase Briscoe Dominates:

If there was one clear playoff driver that did everything right this weekend, which there was roughly about 98% of that didn’t, it would be Chase Briscoe. Briscoe got a very good qualifying effort, which has been the norm from the 19th team, only this time they kept it up front. Not only getting the lead but winning and sweeping the stages and leading over 300 laps for his 2nd straight Southern 500.

The 19 Team is a Championship Darkhorse:

It’s time to look at this 19 team as a serious bid for a Championship 4 contender. Ever since Briscoe rattled off that win at Pocono, he and the team put together an impressive stretch, finishing in 2nd for 3 straight races after. The win in the Southern 500 locked this team into the Round of 12 for the first time since 2023. Martin Truex Jr., the former driver of the 19, made the playoffs but got bounced in Round 1. He became the first driver to win Darlington since Kevin Harvick in 2014, leading over 200 laps. An incredible showing by Toyota as a whole, as they had 5 of the top 6 positions at the finish.

Hendrick No-Show:

On the flip side, Chevrolet as a whole completely missed the setups, especially Hendrick Motorsports. Hendrick’s leading finisher was Chase Elliott in 17th, followed by Kyle Larson in 19th, William Byron in 21st, and Alex Bowman, whose night was highlighted by a 40-second pit stop, finishing in 31st. A complete no-show in a round that had Gateway in it, where HMS as a whole has been very much on record, saying how they as a company have struggled. Things definitely feel different now than they did, say, a week ago when the only thing the company was worried about was Bowman possibly missing the playoffs, but now there is an urgency to find speed.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
