Blockbuster Trade

The Dallas Cowboys traded edge rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers in a blockbuster deal that sent shockwaves through the NFL. The trade comes after a prolonged contract dispute between Parsons and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, escalated into Parsons’ public trade request. In exchange for Parsons, the Cowboys received defensive lineman Kenny Clark and two first-round draft picks (2026 and 2027). Immediately following the trade, the Packers signed Parsons to a massive four-year, $188 million extension with $136 million guaranteed, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history at an average annual value (AAV) of $47 million.

The Tail of Two Franchises

This trade certainly looks like these two franchises have different goals for the 2025 season. The Packers are going all-in on contending for a Super Bowl with quarterback Jordan Love and a bolstered defense, while the Cowboys appear to be moving toward a rebuild with a team playing a lot of young players and looking forward to premium picks in the near future.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
