I’m gonna take a look at the 19 Canadian players selected in the 2025 draft. I did write about one player in my last article about the top 5 Yankee draftees. One of their selections included Core Jackson, a shortstop from Ontario (see previous published article) Not that I don’t want to talk about Jackson again, cause believe me I like what I see so far as a Yankees fan I’m stoked. We can take a wait and see approach like all prospects but as I stated there’s lots to get excited about. Lets delve into the other 18 Canadian kids about to hit the diamond on the next level of their professional careers.

#1. We’ll get the other Canadian the Yankees drafted out of the way. Blake Gillespie starting pitcher who pitched for The University of North Carolina, The Yankees drafted Gillespie in the 9th round of the 2025 MLB Draft. Another Ontario native, Gillespie was 7-4 with a 2.42ERA Blake tossed a no hitter this year. In 15 starts, the 6’2″, 205lb righty struck out 131 batters and walked only 19 over 100.1IP, while holding opposing hitters to a .193AVG.
The no hitter was not the only accomplishment that Gillespie earned. In 2025, he won the American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year Award. He also won the AAC Newcomer Pitcher of the Year, as well as a Unanimous First Team All Conference selection.

#2. Lets look at the other non Yankee Canadian players now.
Second overall pick is Canadian, Tyler Bremner selected by the Angels, Bremner born to Canadian parents in San Diego. A 21 year old right hander, Tyler has a 98mph heater, a devastating changeup, his control is top not, only walking 6% of the batters he’s faced. Bremner is the all-time UC Santa Barbara strikeout king. Bremner went 21-9 with a 3.58ERA and 12.0K/9IP ration in three seasons for UC Santa Barbara.
This pick didnt really make much sense to fans and the league as a whole when it came in as everybody assumed Ethan Holiday or Kade Anderson would be a first or second overall pick, however it made sense once we saw that Bremner signed for 7.7 million dollars rather than the expected slot value for a 2nd pick of 10.3 million, the Halos saved 2.6 million which they would use elsewhere in the draft later. Tyler Bremner will be an interesting prospect to follow in a weak Angels system.

#3. I love this pick and potential of this youngster. Slater de Brun picked 37th overall by the Orioles, Slater de Brun is a speedster from Oregon, Slater holds a Canadian passport, thanks to his Mother who attended McGill University and worked in Toronto. A top ranked outfielder in this year’s draft de Brun profiles as a leadoff hitter a centerfielder who has a keen eye at the plate and excellent contact skills to get the most out of his speed at the plate. His speed will also be a great asset for the CF position, de Brun is being compared to Corbin Carrol of the D-Backs.
As a senior in 2025, he led Summit to the state championship and had a .370AVG, 26RBI and 22 stolen bases. Slater told MLB Pipeline that the three words to describe his style of play are “fast, explosive and aggressive.”

de Brun is a musician/music producer who goes by Lil Slayyy, here is Slater talking about singing

#4. Only 4 picks later another Canadian selected 41st by by the other Los Angeles team, the Dodgers pick Charles Davalan, Davalan a 21 year old from Waterloo, Ontario. an outfielder from the University of Arkansas. Another projected leadoff type hitter, with great bat to ball skills and an excellent approach at the plate. Davalan had a .346AVG in his lone season with the Razorbacks, slugging 14HR and walking more often than he struck out 35BB compared to 27K.
“I’m an old-school ball player,” Davalan said. “I like to win. I like to play hard. So that’s what I’m going to try to do. And I’m sure that knowing the organization, it’s filled with players like that, so I’m super excited just to get to meet new people and just kind of compete with them.

#5. The Dodgers select another Canadian pitcher Cam Leiter 65th overall. Leiter lived in Canada for 10 years, growing up in British Columbia. Leiter’s uncle Al was a member of the 1992 & 93 Blue Jays who won back to back Championships and a 2x All-Star. The 6’5″ right hander missed all of the 2025 season after undergoing shoulder surgery. When healthy Leiter was seen as one of the most explosive pitchers in the draft, throwing a running fastball that has been up to 99MPH, a curveball, slider and changeup. During his time at Florida State in 2024, Leiter struck out 56 batters in 35IP while posting a 4.63ERA. His command could be an issue as well as health concerns, but there’s big stuff here from the big burly 234 pounder.
