With the MLB season nearing the end of the first half, the American League has a long line of disappointing teams this season. This season has exposed many poor teams, and the American League has three of them, disappointing their fan bases.
Two teams from the American League East have been disappointing their fan bases and could end their seasons with new managers and front-office personnel in place. With the American League East featuring some subpar teams, there is also a team in the American League Central that has its fans shaking their heads after a strong 2024 campaign.
The American League has plenty of good teams but also has disappointments in the first half of the 2025 season, which could

One of those teams is the Boston Red Sox, and while they are playing better, they are having another inconsistent season for fans. Boston is growing impatient with its franchise, and it could reach a breaking point where people may leave. After a solid offseason that included a trade for Garret Crochet and the return of several players from injuries, the Red Sox were poised to be a solid contender for the American League East. Even with some struggles, the Red Sox were playing well before a disastrous trade of their superstar, Rafael Devers, which has been impacting the offense by pressuring their younger bats to hit more.
Following the trade of Devers, the Red Sox have struggled with inconsistent pitching and weak hitting. The offense has been playing better for the team, but the pitching has been holding Boston back from its true potential. Boston, before trading Devers, has been underachieving, and it could get worse after the trade, potentially leaving them with a record of barely around .500, which could lead to them being sellers. Even with a decent record, the Red Sox have been poor against teams over .500 and could fall apart in the second half.

There are also the Baltimore Orioles, whose disastrous season has seen everything go wrong. Baltimore has been having a nightmare season, and it could lead to changes in the front office and coaching staff. The Orioles have been a disaster this season, with their performance worsening, as they fired their manager early in the season and may potentially part ways with their general manager after the season. Baltimore’s issues are primarily poor pitching, inexcusable hitting, and the team collapsing in real time.
The Orioles, after a late-season collapse last year, were predicted to win the American League East, but poor free agency moves have left them at the bottom of the barrel. This season has been a disappointment for the team, and while they are still young, if they don’t make improvements after the season, it could become a hamster wheel of disappointment for the Orioles franchise.

The last team that has been disappointing fans this season is the Kansas City Royals, after a postseason appearance last year. Kansas City, had a decent offseason and against a weak American League Central, should be having a better season. Sadly, the Royals’ hitting has been subpar this season, and even with decent pitching, the offense has been weak for them in the first half of the MLB season.
Even after calling up Jac Caglianone, he has been struggling alongside the team, but they could recover after the break. With the American League being weak, the Royals could have a chance to snatch a wild card spot in the second half of the season. The division has been awful all season, and the Royals could take advantage of their rivals to at least secure a spot in the wild card, along with a softer second-half schedule. While the Royals have a chance to get a wild card spot, their season could have been more for fans after a strong 2024 season.
The MLB season is heating up, but these disappointments from the American League could have a worse second half. Boston has been one of the bigger disappointments, and it could haunt them after the All-Star break with a demanding schedule against top-tier teams. The offense for Boston, while hot right now, could be unsustainable, along with the team’s poor pitching.
Baltimore is also, in its way, disappointing fans in a nightmare season for the organization. With the chaos in the organization, the team could be firing their front office before the season is over, along with other coaches. This season has been a nightmare, and it could continue after the All-Star break for the Orioles.
The last team having a rough season is the Kansas City Royals, but they could bounce back in the second half. While the Royals are a disappointment this year, they could have a chance to get a wild-card spot. Kansas City has a solid roster, and with a more manageable schedule in the second half, they could make some noise after a rough first half. This MLB season has been heating up, but these teams have been a disappointment, and while some could bounce back, others may fall apart in the second half. The American League has been weak, and these teams, although they have a chance, could easily collapse after a weak first half of the season.
