With the MLB season in its third month, the season is grinding down its pretenders, and with that in mind, these three teams could be sellers for the MLB trade deadline. The National League is becoming a bloodbath for teams, and the pretenders may consider selling to try to reload for the next season. Along with the National League, the American League, although weak, could have surprise sellers in July and alter the outlook of their franchise.

Two of the National League teams could be sellers due to the intense competition in the Wild Card race. The National League is improving as the season progresses, heading into the summer, and the pretenders could sell if things fall apart. There is also an American League team that would surprise people by selling due to underachieving. With a disappointing season deteriorating, this American League team may consider selling pieces to build its prospect pool for 2026.

The MLB season is getting intense this coming Summer, and it is grinding down the pretenders so that they can become sellers by July.

The Desert snakes could be selling

One of the National League’s sellers for the upcoming deadline is the Arizona Diamondbacks. Arizona is struggling this season with a subpar 33-34 record and a run differential of -4. The Diamondbacks’ hitting has been solid all season, with an MVP-caliber performance from Corbin Carroll so far, but their pitching is letting them down. Arizona’s pitching has been underwhelming, with poor pitching from their bullpen and injuries to their starting pitchers. The Diamondbacks’ starters have also struggled, with Zac Gallen and Eduardo Rodriguez having rough seasons and a total combined win total of 5. While the season remains hopeful for the Diamondbacks, they must contend with the other top-tier teams, which could knock them out of the Wild Card race.

Arizona’s trade pieces for the upcoming deadline could include Eugenio Suárez, Shelby Miller, and Pavin Smith. Suarez has been a great slugger for the Diamondbacks, with 19 home runs and 52 RBIs so far this season. The Diamondbacks slugger is in his final year of a seven-year contract and could provide a contender with a power surge in the lineup. Miller is also a trade piece with the Diamondbacks due to his strong pitching this season, with a 1.75 ERA. The Phillies and other contenders could trade some prospects for the veteran pitcher. The Diamondbacks slugger Smith could also have contender’s eyes due to his strong batting average, and could provide a lineup with a left-handed bat for the team.

A Brutal Wake-up Call For The Brew crew

Another seller that could surprise fans is the Milwaukee Brewers and their sluggish start to the season. While there is a chance to catch up on the division, it could be the Cubs’ year due to their power and stout pitching. The Brewers have a litany of issues, including disappointing hitting and a poor start. Milwaukee has pieces they could sell at the deadline, including Freddy Peralta, Rhys Hoskins, and Jake Bauers. Peralta is in the final year of his contract before free agency, and Milwaukee could trade him for a haul of prospects to help a contender.

The Brewers have a history of trading players who were pending free agents, and could do it again with Peralta. Hoskins is also another player who could help contenders at the deadline, given his power against left-handed pitchers. The Brewer’s slugger could provide power for a contender that needs a veteran slugger in the designated hitter spot and give the team leadership. Bauers is also another veteran slugger who could help teams during the deadline for lefty hitting depth. Teams like the Mariners and Blue Jays could use Bauers as a veteran pinch-hitter for their postseason chances in the Summer.

Boston’s Sellers Market

The last seller that could surprise people when they make their move in a seller’s market is the Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox have been underachieving this season with an underwhelming 32-36 record. While the Red Sox are a couple of games away from a Wild Card spot, they have a demanding schedule to end the month of June and start of July. The veteran players that could be trade pieces for the Red Sox are Walker Buehler, Aroldis Chapman, and Trevor Story. Even with Buehler struggling for the Red Sox lately with a 5.18 ERA and a FIP of 5.29.

The Red Sox veteran starter could improve and get a reasonable asking price for the Red Sox’s trade plans if they need to sell. Chapman could also be a good trade piece for the Red Sox for the upcoming deadline. With the Mets, Yankees, and other teams needing bullpen help, the Red Sox could get a decent haul of prospects for the veteran pitcher. The Red Sox also need to address their problem with Story, who is having injury problems. Boston could sell their veteran shortstop for a nice haul of prospects for teams that have shortstop issues. If Story shows he is healthy, Boston could have a nice seller’s market at the trade deadline.

Final Thoughts

The MLB trade deadline is only nine weeks away, and while anything could happen, these teams could be sellers in 2025. Arizona has been sluggish to start the season, and if it continues, they could be sellers in a nightmare season. With the pitching struggling so far this season, it could force Arizona to wave the white flag and sell pieces to retool for next year.

Along with the Diamondbacks are the Brewers, who are struggling through a mediocre season and may consider waving the white flag if the trend continues. Milwaukee’s hitting is letting the team down and could prompt the front office to face tough questions about roster construction, potentially forcing a change.

The Red Sox are also facing questions this season and could consider selling to try to build for a better future. Boston has been struggling, winning just six of its last ten games, and could continue to struggle with an increasingly difficult schedule ahead. The Red Sox selling their veteran players could retool the team for next season in hopes of competing.

Selling during the trade deadline is challenging, but it can help teams improve themselves in the next season and beyond. These surprise sellers, while waving the white flag, could benefit themselves for next season and compete against the rivals in 2026.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
