Last week it was reported by NFL reporter Tom Pelissero that former Los Angeles Charger JK Dobbins would have dinner Wednesday evening and visit the facility Thursday. Fast forward to today June 10th, 2025, after leaving the Mile High last Thursday without a deal and keeping all of Broncos Country on the edge of their seats, JK Dobbins age 27, has finally agreed to a 1 year $5.25-million-dollar deal. Dobbins base salary is 2.745 million but with incentives has the potential to reach $5.25 million Some within Broncos were uneasy about a potential Audric Estime and RJ Harvey duo, myself included, heading into the season. Adding Dobbins instills a great amount of confidence in that running back room as we get closer to the season.

Now I understand RJ Harvey is an exciting rookie that most Broncos fans are excited about but one part of his game that isn’t quite polished is his pass protection. The Broncos running back Estime from last year’s draft class doesn’t seem to be quite their either in terms of his development if the team felt the need to go out and add a veteran in Dobbins. Going into the season the Broncos needed a running back that they could really rely on pass protection to support their prized franchise QB in Bo Nix hence one of the reasons Dobbins was brought into Denver.

With the Chargers last season he is coming off a solid season. Dobbins had 905 rushing yards while averaging 4.6 yards per carry along with 9 rushing TDs. Now there are some injury concerns or durability issues that may be of concern having played no more than 15 games since his rookie season in 2020. The Broncos have full confidence in their training staff it seems with Beau Lowery leading the way since the theme of the offseason has been to sign players with past injury history in which could be low risk high reward type of signings. One thing to point out was that the Ravens and Chargers are very run heavy schemes and really don’t have a rotation like head coach Sean Payton will in Denver which allows Dobbins to really stay fresh throughout a grueling 17 game season.

One of the priorities was to improve the running game. In the offseason, the Broncos have done just that,. With the new additions including the rookie running back out of UCF RJ Harvey and now former Charger JK Dobbins. This is a 1-2 punch of RJ and JK that I could hang my hat on and really get excited about and feel confident in. With Dobbins added to the running back room, other running backs like Jaleel McLaughlin and Estime’s seats have gotten hot and I anticipate NFL training camp to be very competitive and be interesting for the fans keeping tabs.

Broncos Country, who will be the odd man out? Will it be Estime? Will it be McLaughlin? These are the questions that have been asked throughout the fan base in which won’t be answered until later down the line. Either way, I’m just glad that I don’t have to be the one that make those type of decisions and leave it to the shot callers in Dove Valley. I give the Broncos organization a standing ovation with how they have gone out and really improved this roster this offseason.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
