Look, I’m all for going big on anything when it comes to improve your team. Do you want to swing big on a trade for a superstar because you feel like you’re a missing piece away? Go Ahead. If you feel like the time is now to blow your roster up because your team hits their ceiling? By all means.
For the Chicago Blackhawks, though, since about 2021, the expectations in the United Center haven’t risen much, and that is mostly the failures of the previous gm: Stan Bowman.
Bowman tried to retool the roster after the Blackhawks failure to reach past the 1st round against the Predators and did so with little success.
Davidson Rebuild Next Step
Since Kyle Davidson took over, he has had 3 drafts that have produced a top 5 prospect pool, and at the very end of the season flashed what fans hope is the next core shaping out.
With players like Frank Nazar, Sam Rinzel, Oliver Moore, and Artyom Levshunov joining Connor Bedard to finish the season 4-1-1, the Blackhawks hope to find the next long-term coach after firing Luke Richardson mid-season.
No David Carle, Blackhawks might just want Progression
Since University of Denver coach David Carle turned down the Blackhawks, it is time for Blackhawks fans to be realistic where the team is at. This team is still expected to be a bottom 8 team in the NHL next season. While the next coach might not be pressured to get in the Playoffs, he should be aiming for around a .500 next season with continued growth from the young players.
It is paramount that Kyle Davidson gets this hire right. It can help shape the Blackhawks future or it can create an impasse in the road.
