The Cincinnati Reds come into Friday night coming off of a series win versus the San Francisco Giants, taking 2 out of 3. They’ll be taking on the Pittsburgh Pirates for a 3-game series.

Game 1:

Brady Singer takes the mound for the Reds on Friday night vs. Brady Falter for the Pirates. The Reds would get 3 in the 1st, 1 on a Spencer Steer RBI fielders choice groundout and a 2-run home run off the bat of Jeimer Candelario. The Reds give Singer all the runs, leading the team in runs scored when he pitches. Cincinnati has scored 25 runs in his 3 starts, opposed to the 32 for the rest of the team. In the 3rd, Elly De La Cruz would create chaos on the base paths. He’d steal 2nd, then he would steal 3rd, causing an overthrow that would go to the wall. Spencer Steer would score on the overthrow as well, Reds lead 5-0. Singer would give up 3 runs in the 5th, 2 on an Adam Frazier home run to bring the Pirates to within 2. Emilio Pagán would come in and earn the save in the 9th. Reds win 5-3

My Takeaways:

The Brady Singer trade was worth it, he complements this rotation perfectly.

Gavin Lux looks really good in left field.

Game 2:

It’s Elly bobblehead day. The Reds activated Andrew Abbott off the IL and option Will Benson back to AAA Louisville. Noelvi Marte gets the start at 3rd base. Abbott gets the start versus Andrew Heaney for Pittsburgh. Heaney would get into trouble in the 3rd. The Reds worked the bases loaded for Elly De La Cruz to launch his second career Grand Slam, his first from the right side and first in Great American Ballpark. The Reds lead 4-0. Abbott would pitch well in his first game back. 5 innings, 2 hits, and 1 run on an Alexander Canario solo home run. Scott Barlow would allow 1 run in the 7th, but Tony Santillan would slam the door on a Pirate rally, getting out of the jam and pitching a scoreless 8th. The Reds would add an insurance run in the 7th on a fielder’s choice error on a Jose Trevino ground ball to second. Emilio Pagán would go 1,2,3 in the 9th and the Reds win the game and series 5-2.

My Takeaways:

Elly De La Cruz

Andrew Abbott was solid, he should fair well in this rotation. He could have some serious competition this summer with Chase Burns, Rhett Lowder, and Chase Petty looking to make it to the Reds roster.

Game 3:

Reds Ace Hunter Greene is on the mound Sunday for the Reds as they look to sweep the Pirates. Greene was on his game again today, going 7 innings, 2 hits, 1 walk, and 8 strikeouts. Ian Gibaut and Tony Satillan pitched 2 perfect innings in relief. The Reds got their offense on a 2-run single by Santiago Espinal, a fielder’s choice ground out from TJ Friedl and a bloop single off the bat of Elly De La Cruz. Reds win 4-0.

My Takeaways:

Hunter Greene is the best pitcher in baseball. He brings his season ERA down to 0.98. He’s locating his fastball with pinpoint precision, setting up his offspeed and breaking pitches to perfection.

Santiago Espinal is a Tito guy. Espinal is proving that analytics aren’t everything in a player. Players are human and not robots. His glove is exceptional and he makes contact offensively.

Quote of the week

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
