While Coors Field is known to be a hitter friendly field from an offensive standpoint, it poses its challenges for fielders on the defensive side. Playing defense at Coors Field comes with its challenges when tracking baseballs hit into the “Mile High” thin air. Baseballs tend to travel farther, making it difficult to judge the projection of the baseball, as well as having expansive gaps.
The Rockies are projected to have 3 solid foundational players within the organization when it comes to patrolling the depths of the outfield at Coors Field.
RF Jordan Beck: Jordan Beck had dealt with a broken hand last season after a short stint with the Rockies. After being called back up to the big league club, he never could find his footing to prove his worth on the diamond. Beck was known for his batting power and defensive prowess in his college years at Tennessee, which factored into the Rockies drafting him in 2022. When it comes to Beck’s frame, at 6ft 3in, he has some speed to go with it. Beck holds all the intangibles to become the Rockies’ everyday right fielder in the upcoming regular season. Jordan Beck can’t be ignored with his name running hot for the strong performance he has displayed in Spring Training. If Beck can prove to be a productive force within the lineup this season, I believe he can become a cornerstone player for the Rockies organization going forward.

2024 Season Stats- Games Played 55 / Batting Average .188/ 3 HRs / 13 RBI
CF Brenton Doyle: Doyle is a Gold Glove winner and arguably the best center fielder in the National League. Doyle possesses lighting speed that is highlighted when it comes to playing centerfield, especially in Coors. Doyle saw an uptick in offensive production, improving from his stats from the previous season. Doyle had 30 stolen bases and was really the only threat the Rockies had in terms of causing havoc on the basepaths. I anticipate Doyle elevating his game and taking that next level to be a 30-30 player. To start the season, Doyle is projected to be the Rockies leadoff hitter going into the season. Doyle is a superstar, and players around the league have taken notice such as perennial All-Star Bryce Harper of the Philadelphia Phillies singing his praises for the Rockies center fielder.

2024 Season Stats- Games Played 149/ Batting Average .260/ 23 HRs / 72 RBIs
LF Nolan Jones: Jones had a breakout season in 2023. Unfortunately, it was followed by a down year derailed by injuries last season. Jones converted from an infielder to the outfield and brings versatility to this Rockies lineup. Colorado needs Jones to bounce back in a big way, being the Rockies only ranked 19th in runs scored with having only 682 runs on the season. If Jones can revert back to his 2023 form with 20 HRs and a batting average of .297, Jones could cement himself as one of the foundational players on the team.

2024 Season Stats- Games Played 79/ Batting Average .227/ 3 HRs/ 28 RBIs
Final Thoughts: These players could provide versatility throughout the lineup and contribute to more wins in what is a long 162 game season. The Rockies could potentially have all 3 positions in the outfield solidified for the foreseeable future with Beck, Jones, and Doyle at the helm. The future is bright in the outfield and headed in the right direction. GO ROCKIES!
