Shock, Speechless, Flabbergasted

Whatever word you can think of that can explain the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers trade, truly will not do it justice.

There were no leaks out of either side and even people in both organizations knew very little even the players involved knew nothing.

This trade finally gives the Lakers something they have been seeking for quite some time: Direction.

It’s no secret over the last three years that the Lakers have been capped at the ceiling of a Play In team with LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Now part of that is mostly due to mismanging assets and not really building a competent roster around its stars but it also is tied to injury concerns and age.

Its no secret that the Lakers hopes all were put on Bron and AD remaining healthy and for the better part of the last two years they both have but then it all goes back to roster decisions like letting Alex Caruso walk and the dreaded Russell Westbrook trade.

This now sets the Lakers up with a Face of the Franchise with Luka Dončić.

Dončić, 25, is at worst a Top 5 player due to his elite playmaking and shot creating. Sure, there are very much concerns about his conditioning and defensive effort, but Doncic is the type of guy you can’t turn down.

Now as the Trade Deadline nears to an end the Lakers focus isn’t so much the short term but the long term outlook of how to build the team around its next Superstar.
