The Cincinnati Reds and left handed pitcher Wade Miley have agreed to a minor league deal according to Gordon Whittenmyer of the Cincinnati Enquirer. A deal worth a prorated salary of $2.5 million and upwards of $4 million with innings pitched incentives as well as a June 1 opt out per Bob Nightengale of USA Today. Miley pitched for Cincinnati in 2020-2021. In those 2 seasons, Miley pitched well, 2020 was a wash, only appearing in 6 games in the Covid shortened season with an ERA of 5.65. 2021 was his best year in Cincinnati. He would make 28 starts, going 12-7 with a 3.37 ERA and would even toss a no hitter in Cleveland against the Indians(now Guardians).
Miley underwent Tommy John surgery to repair a torn UCL in April of 2024 so we might see him sometime near the end of May. The 38 year old Miley provides depth and a veteran presence that this team hasn’t seen since Joey Votto in 2023. I think this is a solid move for that reason alone.
