PITTSBURGH – The Penguins are 1-4 in the last five games, all being at home. The Penguins had a 3-1 lead going into the third period against the Blue Jackets to start the five game home stand, and blew the lead and lost 4-3 in shoot out fashion. It all looked to be downhill from there, and boy was it.
As I said, things definitely went down hill for the home stand, but there seemed to be a glimmer of hope when the Penguins hosted the reigning Western Conference Champion Edmonton Oilers. The Penguins were absolutely dominated by the Oilers in the 5-3 win. The Penguins were out shot 43-26, Parma native Alex Nedeljkovic had 40 saves in the win.
From there things went from bad to worse for the Pens, the Pens were shut out by the Ottawa Senators, losing the game 5-0. Even though the Penguins out shot the Senators 29-22. In hindsight. the Penguins have struggled with goaltending this season. Nedeljkovic was the starting goaltender for the penguins for the second straight game in hopes to build the momentum flame for the Pens, that is not how it worked out. Ned faced 12 shots and allowed 5 goals before he was pulled and replaced by Tristian Jarry.

Jarry has been the primary net minder for the Penguins, but he has struggled all season long. Jarry’s Goals Against Average being 3.31 per game, and only a saves percentage of .886 on the campaign. Alex Nedeljokic has been the back up for Jarry in the 24-25 season, with a GAA of 3.40 and a saves percentage of .886 as well. Moving through the remainder of the home stand the Penguins went down to the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Seattle Kracken.

As the home stand came to a close the Penguins decided to put Goaltender Tristian Jarry on waivers, making Alex Nedeljkovic the primary starter, and rookie goaltender Joel Blomqvist, who is currently in the AHL with the Penguins affiliate team. This could be a good thing for Penguins fans when it comes to their future.
So to answer the question, “What is going on with the Pittsburgh Penguins?” Goaltending.
