Denzel Bentley fought Janibek Alimkhanuly for two middleweight belts and lost a unanimous decision more than 2 years ago. He has worked hard through many things to get another shot at Alimkhanuly’s middleweight titles by climbing up to no. 1 in the rankings.

Saturday night at the OVO Arena in London, England, Bentley closed a strong 2024 year by defeating Brad Pauls to win the British middleweight championship while also winning the vacant European middleweight championship. The win by Bentley sets up a possible rematch with Alimkhanuly in 2025.

Known for his power, especially after his explosive 2nd round KO over Derrick Osaze a few months earlier, Bentley started the fight by controlling the fight with his jab and counter right hands. As a result, Pauls was able to get inside of Bentley’s jab.

Pauls started to turn up the aggression in the middle rounds as he found a way to get inside Bentley’s jab and started to land at a higher rate and had started to close the gap in the fight after the slow start.

In round 10, both fighters had their moments until a couple of stiff jabs by Bentley put Pauls down on his knees and had his left eye swollen shut. But the courageous Pauls got up and managed to survive the round.

Both fighters would mix it up in the 11th round, with Pauls trying desperately to get a KO win, but Bentley would time him with consistent accuracy, and he would eventually win the 12th round as he would box his way to the unanimous decision win.

The win gave Bentley the British middleweight championship for the 3rd time as well as the vacant European middleweight championship as he now looks forward to a potential world championship fight in 2025.

2025 could be Bentley’s year.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
