There is going to be debate all off-season on who the Yankees should pursue as far as free agency goes. Obvious fans’ choice would be Juan Soto? Personally, I love Juan Soto and his energy he brings but I also think money could be spent elsewhere in the field and spread around to more than one position, outfield not being one of them.

There are several free agents that would fit the Yankees roster and would save the team lots of money for the foreseeable future, and fill more holes than just Right Field.
Juan Soto is being projected by Spottrac.com to have a Calculated Market Value of $36.7M per season and a 14 year contract a total of $514M, we know its actually gonna be significantly higher, rumors are close to $700M. Soto wants Ohtani money.
I can think of “at least” two players I’d want right off the hop and the two combined will cost less than signing Juan Soto.

Pete Alonso fits the recently vacated first base spot. Let’s face it young Ben Rice was not going to cut it as an everyday player and not a viable option at 1B. Anthony Rizzo is gone and his days as an asset to a contending club that needs consistent production is over. Same goes for veteran DJ LeMahieu he’s done. Yes, Alonso is a right handed bat with strikeout history but he has also been an All-Star in 4 of his 6 years.
Pete Alonso – Calculated Market Value will be $29M per season that means the Yankees can sign Alonso for 6 years for $174M

The Yankees can always use pitching…
Corbin Burnes comes to mind as an ace of any staff, Burnes Calculated Market Value will be around $30.1M per season a 6 year contract for Burnes will be $180.8M.
Let’s say The Yanks even throw in a reliever, which I know is doable and needed. Yankees could get former Blue Jays closer Jordan Romano for $10.9M a year for 6 years for $65M
Math isn’t my best subject but these 3 players could be in the vicinity of $420M compared to the projected amount for Soto of $514M and as stated Soto is gonna get at least 600, I’m just going by the projected amount.
Three dire needs over one, there’s some more math for ya 3>1
Other notable players that could be viable options and help fill some holes in the Yankees roster would be Jack Flaherty (SP) Max Fried (SP) Christian Walker (1B) and infielder Ha-Seong Kim
