According to Francys Romero, right handed pitcher Nick Martinez has reportedly accepted the Reds’ qualifying offer for 2025. The deadline for qualifying offers to be signed is November 19th. Coming off a month of September where he was named the NL pitcher of the month, Martinez had an excellent season for the Cincinnati Reds after moving to the bullpen after a couple of rough starts. He would continue his excellence with an ERA of just 2.27 in his last 15 games while striking out 61 and walking just 9.
Martinez is set to be the Reds highest paid pitcher in Franchise history at $21.05mm, just over Homer Bailey, who had a high of $21mm. I think this is a great move for the Reds. You have a guy who dominated over his last 15 or so games that has flexability. If he pitches well, you have a guy that will be a great 3-5 option in the rotation and can pitch effectively out of the bullpen if need be. Or, you have a very valuable trade asset if the other young arms progress. I’m giving this move a B+. I would’ve liked a multi year deal but I’m not mad about it. I’m looking forward to seeing Nick back next year.
