The Reds have announced the full coaching staff under new manager Terry Francona. Brad Mills returns to help Tito as Bench Coach as well as Freddie Benavides as bench coach/field coordinator. Brad Mills has been on a Francona coaching staff for 17 of Tito’s 22 seasons as a manager. Mills has managerial experience as the Houston Astros manager from 2010-2012. Derek Johnson returns to the Reds as the director of pitching and pitching coach.

New additions to Cincinnati include Will Remillard and Alex Paláez as assistant hitting coaches, James Keller as bullpen catcher and new hitting coach/director of hitting Chris Valaika. Colin Cowgil, JR House, Alon Leichman, Jose Duarte, Kyle Arnsberg and Matt Tracy all return to their previous roles with the team.

In other offseason news, it’s been rumored that right handed pitcher Nick Martinez will accept his qualifying offer of $21MM, even after it’s been reported he has received some multi year contract offers from other clubs.

The Cincinnati Reds have ended their relationship with Diamond Sports Group. The company is amidst bankruptcy hearings and rebranded to FanDuel TV in October of 2024. The Reds will need to find a new broadcasting deal for the 2025 season and beyond. For a mid market team like Cincinnati, this is crushing. The lack of financial security of a TV deal really affects what the team would want to do in free agency. They could still afford to add payroll should they choose to do so, this just makes it a tougher decision to do so.

It’s unclear what Cincinnati will do in terms of a TV deal as of this moment. Will they join the other six teams that allow MLB to produce and broadcast their games? Or, will they go a local TV route and turn to streaming? We should hear some more news on this sometime before February 2025.
