Lions Spoil Jerry Jones’ Birthday

In what can only be described as an absolute beat-down, the Detroit Lions marched into AT&T Stadium and left with a resounding 47-9 victory over the Dallas Cowboys Sunday. The Cowboys had their two-game win streak halted in the most embarrassing way, a home field laugher. All this in front of controversial owner Jerry Jones’ on his birthday.

Detroit Dominated Early and Often

From the opening whistle, the Lions set the tone. Their offense, led by Jared Goff, who threw for 315 yards and three touchdowns, was seemingly unstoppable all afternoon. Goff’s connection with Sam LaPorta on a 52-yard flea-flicker touchdown early in the second quarter not only added to the show, but put the Cowboys in a hole they couldn’t get out of. The Cowboys’ inability to run the ball effectively or stop the Lions’ offensive drives led to their worst home loss in over a decade.

Cowboys Offense Lethargic

The Cowboys struggled to find their rhythm in offense. Dak Prescott faced a relentless Lions defense, throwing two interceptions, both to Brian Branch, who had a career game with two interceptions and a forced fumble.

Defensively, the Lions were relentless and aggressive all game. Alim McNeill terrorized the Cowboys’ offensive line, registering two sacks and contributing to a total of five turnovers forced by Detroit. This defensive dominance was pivotal, turning the game into a blowout by halftime.

Lions Lose Star

The Lion’s victory was somewhat tainted when Aidan Hutchinson, the leader of their defense, went down with a severe leg injury, which was later confirmed to require surgery. It’s is believed that Hutchinson will be out for the remainder of the season.

Cowboys Key Player Stats:

  • Dak Prescott: 17/33, 178 yards, 2 Int.
  • Zeke Elliot: 8 rushes, 17 yards.
  • CeeDee Lamb: 7 catches, 89 yards.
  • Brandon Aubrey: 3/3 FG

Lions Key Player Stats:

  • Jared Goff: 18/25, 315 yards, 3 TDs.
  • David Montgomery: 12 rushes, 80 yards, 2 TDs.
  • Jameson Williams: 3 catches, 76 yards, 1 TD.

Cowboys Head Into Bye-Week

The Cowboys have a much needed bye week and will look to rebound in their upcoming clash against the San Francisco 49ers. The Cowboys have been down as many as 6 starters on defense alone. With the bye the Cowboys are hoping to return starters DaRon Bland, Micah Parsons, Caelen Carson, and Eric Kendricks in San Francisco. They are certainly going to need these key players on defense and hope to solve the “offensive woes” during the extra week of practice.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
