We cannot talk about Week 7, without talking about the absolute CHAOS, that Week 6 turned out to be.

I loved all of it.

It all begins with the Vanderbilt Commodores upsetting #1 Alabama Crimson Tide 40-35.

I’ve even gone back and watched this game a second time. It still seems unreal. Everything went right, at the right times for Vandy, while it was the opposite for the Crimson Tide.

Congratulations to the players and to head coach Clark Lea, for leading his alma mater to the biggest win in the history of the school.

That wasn’t the only upset however, as 5 of the top 11 ranked teams lost on Saturday.

#4 Tennesse lost to Arkansas 19-14.
#9 Missouri lost to #25 Texas A&M 41-10.
#10 Michigan lost to Washington 27-17.
#11 USC lost to Minnesota 24-17.

Upset Saturday has thrown not just the rankings, but conference tie breaking scenarios as well.

There are massive changes in the new AP Poll. The Big Ten has 3 of the top 4 ranked teams. The SEC has 5 of teams in the top 10.

The eyes of the college football world will be on Eugene, Oregon to see the #2 Ohio State Buckeyes take on #3 Oregon Ducks.

This is the first real test for the Ohio State defense this season. The Ducks are a legitimate National Championship contending team.

Oregon is led by QB Dillion Gabriel, who’s finally clicking the last 3 games (11 TDs to 3 INTs). They have a bell cow running back, averaging 110 yards per game, named Jordan James. Watch out for him in this game. The Ducks defense has 16 sacks on the season, 12.5 of those sacks by the defensive line alone, as they get pressure on the opposing quarterbacks.

The Buckeyes are being led by QB Will Howard. He’s doing exactly what he’s supposed to do, distribute the football to the playmakers. He also has the ability to escape and run for chunks of yards. Ohio State has a two headed monster at running back with Quinshon Judkins and Treveyon Henderson. They have 805 yards rushing and 9 TDs between them.

Ohio State has a true freshman WR, who legitimately could physically play in the NFL right now, in Jermiah Smith. The 6’3″, 215 lbs superstar has 23 catches for a team leading 453 yards and 6 TDs (also team lead). Senior WR Emeka Egbuka leads the team with 30 catches, for 433 yards and 5 TDs of his own.

The defense has 3 first round picks in DE’s Jack Sawyer and JT Tuimoloau, as well as CB Denzel Burke leading the #1 ranked defense in the country.

Prediction – At the beginning of the season, I said that Oregon would beat Ohio State in Eugene, but then lose to them in the Big Ten Title Game…..I’M NOT BACK DOWN!!! The crowd at Autzen Stadium helps the Ducks beat the Buckeyes 38-35 in a classic.

The “Red River Shootout” or “Red River Rivalry” is officially now in the SEC. #1 Texas Longhorns take on the #18 Oklahoma Sooners in one of the best rivalry games in college football. Throw out the records.

Oklahoma has won 4 of the last 5 games in this rivalry. Last season’s game went down to the last second, will this game join it, as an all-time classic?

Prediction – Texas simply has too much talent, especially at QB. Whether it’s Quinn Ewers or Arch Manning, the Longhorns are going to WALK THE DOG on the Sooners, winning 35-13.

#9 Ole Miss Rebels travels to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to take on the #13 LSU Tigers. This is going to be a fun QB game to watch. Tigers QB Garrett Nussmeier has thrown for 1,652 yards with 15 TDs and only 4 INTs. Rebels QB Jaxson Dart (potential first round pick), has thrown for 2,100 yards with 13 TDs, and only 2 INTs.

Prediction – Something is telling me that Rebels HC Lane Kiffin is going to lean on his superior running game and wear down that LSU defense. Dart will throw a game winning touchdown late, giving the Rebels a 27-20 win.

Top 3 Most Interesting Games.

#16 Utah Utes at Arizona State. Both teams are sitting at 4-1 and must win to stay in contention for the Big-12 title.

Toledo Rockets at Buffalo Bulls. This is an offense vs defense game. Winner stays tight at the top of the MAC.

Louisville Cardinals at Virginia Cavaliers. One team is hot and the other is not. Can Virginia move to 5-1? Can Louisville break the losing streak?

Heisman Trophy – Front runner is Ashton Jeanty, HB, Boise State Broncos.

95 carries for a whopping 1,031 yards with 16 TDs. He’s averaging 10.9 yards per carry and over 200 yards per game. All of this, through only 5 games!!!

Quote of the week

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
