Week 1 couldn’t have been more disappointing for Caleb Williams. Sure the end result was a W but he had 93 yards, was inaccurate and nerves were evident from the #1 Overall Pick.
Fast forward just four weeks later, and Williams now appears to have calmed his nerves and silenced some of the criticism of him. In the last two weeks, Williams numbers against the blitz are 17/19 200 yards and 2 TDs. That is a far cry from the beginning of the season. Since the 4th quarter versus the Colts, Williams has 5 TDs and no interceptions.
He is taking care of the ball, and the Bears are finally helping him out. D’Andre Swift had been severely hampered in the run game, but in the last two weeks, Swift has 37 carries for 166 yards and 2 TDs, but his biggest impact has been the receiving game. In the Rams game, he had the most receptions with 7, and in the Panthers had a long reception to set up another TD. Any QB needs a sold run game, and the Bears are slowly picking it up.
Through 5 weeks, it has been a clear progression. Sure, the results sometimes aren’t all great. As a matter of fact, it can leave you scratching your head. However, with a franchise that has seemingly struggled with constituency at the most important position in sports, you have to be excited about how things are coming around.
