In a surprisingly dominant performance in front of 96,000 fans at Wembley Stadium in London, England, heavyweight beltholder Daniel Dubois thoroughly dominated and knocked out the favorite Anthony Joshua in five rounds to retain his “world belt.”  Dubois came out with a purpose from the opening bell and took the action to Joshua, flooring him four times during the fight.

The last one came courtesy of a perfectly placed right hand on Joshua’s chin that sent him and out for the entire 10 count.

The fight was a shocker because Joshua, widely regarded as a top 3 heavyweight, was a betting favorite going in and was close to the unanimous consensus pick to win the fight. The shocker wasn’t only Dubois winning, but also how easily he won as he controlled the fight from the beginning to the final punch.

The win puts Dubois in line for some very good fights down the road, potentially the winner of the Oleksandr UsykTyson Fury rematch set to take place later this year. He can also seek opponents like Zhilei Zhang and Martin Bakole in big fights if he chooses to go down that route.

For a fighter who was on the verge of being a journeyman, Dubois now suddenly has a “belt” and options.

He’s worked hard, and it’s finally paid off.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
