The Atlanta Braves travel to GABP for a 3 game series in Cincinnati vs the Reds. The Reds are on the brink of being eliminated from playoff contention, while the Braves are fighting for a Wild Card spot.

Game 1:

Brandon Williamson gets the start for the Reds. Williamson’s counterpart on Tuesday is Grant Holmes. Williamson would allow a lead off home run to Michael Harris and a 2 run home run to Matt Olson, the Braves lead 3-0 after 1. The Reds get 1 run back on a Tyler Stephenson RBI single, Elly De La Cruz scores to make it a 3-1 game. In the 2nd, Brandon Williamson would leave the game with an elbow injury. It would be confirmed that he tore his UCL and will require Tommy John surgery. Fernando Cruz would relive Williamson. The Braves would score 1 more in the inning to take a 4-1 lead. In the 4th, Jorge Soler would launch his 19th home run of the season to extend the Atlanta lead to 5-1. Jake Fraley would give the Reds 1 in the bottom of the 4th on a sac fly, to cut the Reds deficit to 5-2. After a spectacular defensive play in the top half of the inning, Noelvi Marte would rip a 2 RBI double to right center, cutting the Braves lead to 1.

In the 7th, Spencer Steer would put the Reds ahead, launching a 2 run home run to give the Reds a 6-5 lead. Alexis Diaz would pitch a scoreless 9th to earn the save and the Reds a 6-5 victory.

Brandon Williamson will require Tommy John surgery to repair his torn UCL and will miss all of the 2025 season. Williamson missed the majority of this season with a back injury and rehabbed his way into the rotation in August.

Spencer Schwellenbach gets the start for Atlanta on Wednesday, against Jakob Junis for the Reds. Both starters were dealing on Wednesday. Junis would finish with a season high 6 innings pitched, allowing 2 hits 1 run and 6 strikeouts. Spencer Schwellenbach would go 6, allow 5 hits 1 run and 5 punchouts. Junis’s earned run came in the 4th in a Matt Olson RBI single. In the 6th, Elly De La Cruz would triple. TJ Friedl would lay a perfect bunt, scoring Elly on the sacrifice.

The Reds bullpen would be the Achilles heal, allowing 6 runs in the final 3 innings, as the Reds fall 7-1.

With the loss, the Reds are eliminated from playoff contention in the 2024 season.

Game 3:

Julian Aguiar is pitching for the Reds on Thursday afternoon in the rubber match. The Braves would jump out early on a Matt Olson home run in the 2nd, his 27th of the season and the Braves lead 1-0. Ramon Laureano launched a 3 run home run in the 3rd to extend the Atlanta lead to 4. The Reds would get 1 off Chris Sale, Jonathan India would single in Blake Dunn to cut the Braves lead to 4-1. The Braves would get 4 in the 5th on a Marcel Ozuna automatic double and Matt Olson’s 2nd home run of the game, this time a 3 run shot to give the Braves an 8-1 lead. Blake Dunn would hit his first career home run in the 5th off Chris Sale to make it an 8-2 game.

After Jorge Soler hit a 3 run home run in the 6th Elly De La Cruz would hit an RBI single in the 7th, Reds trail 11-3. Micheal Harris would homer in the 8th and 9th for a combined 4 RBI. Atlanta wins in dominating fashion, 15-3.
