As the title says, the best way to explain Week 2, was that it was backwards. Teams that looked good last week, looked like hot garbage. Teams that struggled last week, played well and pulled off the upset.
It was nice to see 6 running backs break the 100-yard rushing mark. In an era of the game, when the league keeps changing the rules to help the passing game; it was nice to see a little bit of a throwback.
The Minnesota Vikings are 2-0 to start the season, after a massive 23-17 win over the San Francisco 49ers. Minnesota starting QB Sam Darnold just managed the offense and got the ball to his superstar wideout WR Justin Jefferson, who finished with 4 catches for 133 yards, including a 97-yard TD. The Vikings defense just dominated on defense, collecting 6 sacks and 7 QB hits.
Despite the loss, there is no reason for 49ers fans or anyone who has money on them to panic. QB Brock Purdy went 28 of 36, for 319 yards, with 1 TD and 1 INT. WR Deebo Samuel had 8 catches for 110 yards. HB Jordan Mason had 20 carries for 100 yards. The 49ers are going to be there at the end of the regular season.
Some of my fellow Cleveland Browns brethren need to just calm down. It was good to get our first win of the season, 18-13 over the Jacksonville Jaguars. but the offense played like absolute crap. QB Deshaun Watson continues to struggle, throwing for 186 yards on 22 of 34 passes. The offensive line continues to be a problem with all the injures that continue. The defense though will always keep the team within striking defense, as they had 4 sacks and 7 QB hits. This defense is fast.
We can’t look over the TERRIBLE team discipline by Browns either. 13 penalties for 100 yards is usually a stat line that a team cannot overcome. In the 2 games so far this season, Cleveland has 24 penalties for 164 yards. The Browns get a struggling New York Giants team, coming in. This is the start of a nice little stretch, where with improvements, we could win 3 straight games.
HB Alvin Kamara had himself, one hellava game on Sunday!!!
I certainly did not foresee the New Orleans Saints going into AT&T Stadium and putting a 44-19 beatdown on the Dallas Cowboys. It was a highlight game for Alvin Kamara. He had 115 yards rushing with 3 TDs and added another 65 yards receiving with 1 TD. While he deserves the praise for a great game, let’s not forget about the Saints defense forcing 2 INTs from Dak Prescott.
Buffalo Bills beat the Miami Dolphins 31-10. The win was overshadowed by Tua Tagovailoa sustaining his third concussion. He was put on the IR List (injured reserve) on Tuesday. Aaron Rodgers got his first win as a New York Jets, as they defeated the Tennessee Titans 24-17.
WR Marvin Harrison Jr had a big game. He had 4 catches for 130 yards, and 2 TDs. As the Arizona Cardinals walked the dog on the Los Angeles Rams 41-10.
The Houston Texans beat the Chicago Bears 19-13. Rookie #1 draft pick QB Caleb Williams continues to struggle through his first two games. The Las Vegas Raiders upset the Baltimore Ravens 26-23. The Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Denver Broncos 13-6. It was more like the Broncos beating themselves with penalties and turnovers.
The Atlanta Falcons beat the Philadelphia Eagles 22-21, in one of the craziest final two minutes of a football game, that I remember seeing recently. The Kansas City Chiefs won a close game over the Cincinnati Bengals 26-25 in Arrowhead. Joe Burrow played a good game, but even though Patrick Mahomes struggled and threw 2 INTs, the Chiefs simply found a way to make the plays when it mattered most.
In a rematch of last season’s great divisional playoff game, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers got a small measure of revenge, as the beat the Detroit Lions 20-16. QB Baker Mayfield using his legs, has the defending AFC South Champions at 2-0.
Remember everyone, Week 4 has a Monday Night Football double header.
Will we see more upsets and heart stopping endings?
I certainly hope so.
