MLW returned to Center Stage in Atlanta Georgia for Fightland. We are looking to crown a new Opera Cup winner plus six other matches. Joe Dombrowski and Christian Cole are our commentary team as we get an extended video highlighting the history of the Opera Cup, dating back to the 1800’s and the stories of the current tournament. This leads to our first match…

Opera Cup Semifinal KENTA vs. TJP
KENTA last defeated AKIRA and TJP bested Tom Lawlor to lead to this semifinal matchup. KENTA started the match by attacking TJP from behind. TJP had answers for a lot of KENTA’s tricks, but ultimately fell victim to a pair of low blows (one blatantly in front of the referee) and the GTS. KENTA moves on to the finals in the main event tonight.

Opera Cup Semifinal Mistico vs. Bad Dude Tito
Mistico took the fight to the larger Tito early with strikes and lucha based offense. This control did not last long as Tito’s strength overpowered Mistico with strikes and suplexes. Tito looked to have things in the bag after rolling through La Mistica and dropping the Middleweight champion with a big powerbomb. Mistico fought back and picked up the flash pin with a crucifix pin to advance to the finals tonight.
Bobby Fish, BRG, and the Andersons are drinking on a roof to make vague threats about the guys that claim to run Atlanta, with the Andersons noting that the Anderson family has been wreaking havoc in Atlanta for fifty years. I guess that Alex Kane is in trouble tonight.
We get a hype video for Kevin Knight’s upcoming debut.

Donovan Dijak w/MSL vs. Timothy Thatcher
Dijak is looking to hijack MLW and the first victim appears to be Timothy Thatcher. Thatcher though, was not going down without a fight, taking the fight to Dijak with European uppercuts and headlocks. Dijak created some space, using his size advantage, but Thatcher had answers until he was unceremoniously suplexed to the arena floor. Thatcher made one last stand with a Fujiwara armbar followed by a pair of sleeper holds. This was not enough to keep Dijak down, as he hit Feast Your Eyes to put away Thatcher.
After the match, MSL gets on the mic to note that he has a stack of open challenge contracts. Dijak states that he will fight anywhere, anytime and calls out members of the locker room to fight him.
A hype video for MLW Pit Fighters plays, hyping the September 26th event, with every match being some sort of MMA or street fight ruled match.
BRG and Bobby Fish kick Christian Cole off commentary for our next match…

The Anderson’s vs. The Bomaye Fight Club
The Bomaye Fight Club are technically the #1 contenders for the Tag Team Championship. Alex Kane and CW Anderson start, but things break down fast. We get a restart and Kane takes over, and the Bomayes look strong until Brock hits a cheap shot on Kane to allow the Andersons to do what the Andersons do best: tag wrestle. It took two hot tags for things to swing back to their favor. Unfortunately, just as victory was coming, the ref got squished, missing a visual pin. BRG and Fish exit commentary to lay a beating on the Bomaye’s, going so far as to hit Kane with a chair. Kevin Knight comes out and leaps off the stage over two rows onto BRG and Fish. To further compound matters, JBL to the surprise of…well…everyone, coming to the ring. JBL made a whisper, then punched Mr. Thomas in the face before hitting the Clothesline from Hell and leaving. The Andersons got the win in this overbooked match.
After the match, BRG calls the group a franchise in the making. CW names the group…the Rogue Horsemen. Original.
Backstage Bad Dude Tito is on a rampage because he’s actually Bad Sport Tito. Tito crashes into Matthew Justice. They were pulled apart. I guess Justice is not #1 contender for Tito’s National Openweight Championship.

Okumura vs. Adam Priest
Priest is making his return to MLW but has a former tag team champion waiting for him. Priest made a strong showing, hitting a middle rope dropkick, and taking the fight outside of the ring. Unfortunately, a strong combination of moves by Okumura ending with a Fisherman’s buster to put the youngster away.
Contra comes out to possibly lay a beatdown on Okumura, but we’ll never know because AKIRA came out with a kendo stick and swung away.
A fast food breakfast sandwich finds Satoshi Kojima backstage and gets Kojima to say, “Bitch as Contra.” Kojima leaves and is replaced by MSL, who brings out old friend Tom Lawlor, who lays down a challenge for the #1 Contendership of the World Championship in a Vale Tudo match.

MLW Heavyweight Championship Satoshi Kojima vs. Mads Krugger
Krugger took the fight to the champion, hitting a myriad of strikes before dropping Kojima on the apron. Krugger continues the clubberin’ until crashing into the corner. Kojima hit his trademark machine gun chops followed up with three DDT’s to keep the Black Hand down. Back suplex gets two for Krugger. Kojima hits the Cozy Cutter for two. Kojima fights out of a chokeslam to hit the lariat! Janai Kai breaks the pin from outta nowhere! Backstage, CONTRA attacks Okumura and AKIRA. Inside the ring, Krugger whiffs a fireball at Kojima and Kojima suffers severe psychological damage. Kojima looks to get the body bag treatment, but AKIRA fights out and brawls out to Krugger, with the two fighting out of the arena.
Alex Kane wants BRG in an Atlanta Street Fight.

Opera Cup Finals KENTA vs. Mistico
KENTA is reluctant to engage Mistico, but Mistico eventually catches KENTA and launches a barrage of strikes and good lucha things. Mistico relies on the crowd’s approval too much and gets kicked off the ropes. KENTA thinks this is Memphis and utilizes a variety of eye pokes and back rakes to ratchet up the pain. Mistico attempts to make a comeback, but decides he needs to be cool a takeout the ref too. KENTA hits a low blow but eats a chair that he brought in the ring. Mistico rides this momentum with a dropkick, sunset flip for two, finalized with La Mistica, forcing KENTA to tap! The show ends with Mistico celebrating with the Opera Cup.

Bell to bell, the action was exciting and able to enthrall any wrestling fan. However, the match outcomes, at times left me scratching my head. There are plenty of unanswered questions that will keep us watching for answers. Seriously. Does JBL think he is Jeff Jarrett? We’ll find out more on September 26th on YouTube.
