Being selected #1 overall comes with heightened expectations and especially if you play the Quarterback position. It is the most important position on the field. It is the main compartment of an engine that gets it to run. But for Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears Sunday Night’s primetime disaster was all too familiar.

Since 2017 the Bears have taken 3 quarterbacks in the first round. The ill fated 2017 class that saw the Bears trade up for Mitchell Trubisky in the same class as Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson. The 2021 class saw Ohio State product Justin Fields fall to the Bears at #11th overall. While exciting he never saw actual passing progress through 3 seasons in the Windy City. Then there was Williams. A glorified show stopper in college and some considered to be “generational”.

The problem with being at Quarterback you will be at the center of it all. On Sunday the Houston Texans through a ton at Williams and the Bears oline registered 7 sacks and allowed 36 total pressures on 37 pass attempts made by Williams.

That’s right 36 TOTAL PRESSURES.

The Bears have long been eluded to having a good offensive line in front of its young Quarterbacks. Even when Jay Cutler was the signal caller he dealt with numerous injuries through poor pass protection.

For Williams and the Bears it is early but it’s a dreaded reminder of shoring up the games most important position: The Offensive Line.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
