It was an exciting Week 3 of the college football season. There were a few close games in the AP Top 25. The #1 Georgia Bulldogs barely, and I mean barely, hung on to beat the unranked Kentucky Wildcats 13-12. Georgia head coach Kirby Smart gave props to the Wildcats defensive line at halftime, and talked about how they knew it would be a “blow by blow game”. The Bulldogs have a bye next Saturday, before making a trip to Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

The #4 Alabama Crimson Tide went up to Camp Randell Stadium to take on the unranked and struggling Wisconsin Badgers. To the surprise of ABSOLUTELY NOONE, they put a beatdown on them 42-10.

Badgers head coach Luke Fickell is trying to install an “air raid style” of offense at a place that is so well known for its running attack, where they’ve produced Heisman Trophy running backs. I said it was a dumb move when he was hired, and the lack of a passing game in his 2 seasons at the helm, show that I’m right. They need to get back to the ground and pound running style.

In my college football season preview article, I predicted that Crimson Tide QB Jalen Milroe was going to win the Heisman Trophy, and with him scoring 5 total touchdowns (3 passing and 2 rushing) for the 2nd time in 3 games, he’s certainly, at or near the top of the list, early so far this season.

The #6 Missouri Tigers had to scratch and claw, to get a home win against #24 Boston College Eagles 27-21. The Tigers forced 2 interceptions and held the Eagles to only 49 yards rushing. Head Coach Eliah Drinkwitz, said in his postgame interview “Yeah, we learned a lot about our team today. A lot of sloppy play, but there’s a lot of resolve there”.

The Florida State Seminoles are starting 0-3 for the 2nd time in head coach Mike Norvell’s 5-year tenue, and the 3rd time since 1976. Losing to the Memphis Tigers 20-12. It is not pretty down in Tallahassee right now. The very same can be said about the Florida Gators. They lost to the Texas A&M Aggies 33-20. Could one or even both coaches be fired on Monday or even Sunday? ESPN is already reporting that Florida Gator boosters “have already gathered the $26 million dollars, it would cost to fire Billy Napier.

The Toledo Rockets went down to Starkville, Mississippi, and completely dominated the Mississippi State Bulldogs 41-17. The MAC Conference continues to prove that its’ top teams, can play with any other conferences top teams, on any given Saturday afternoon. This is the 2nd time that Toledo head coach Jason Candle has gone down into SEC country and won before, as the Rockets beat the Arkansas Razorbacks, way back in 2015.

Not only is it a big blow on the football field and recruiting, it’s also a blow to the Mississippi State pocketbook, as the Bulldogs paid the Rockets $1.2 million dollars to play them.

It was a little bit of an early “Rivalry Weekend”, as there were 5 “big rivalry games”,

  • The #9 Oregon Ducks beat the snot out of the Oregon State Beavers, in what could be the second to last Civil War Game.
  • #12 Utah Utes beat the Utah State Aggies 38-21, in the Battle of the Brothers.
  • Colorado Buffaloes beat the Colorado State Rams 28-9, in the Rocky Mountain Showdown.
  • The Pittsburgh Panthers won THE GAME OF THE WEEK, when they defeated their rival from down the road, the West Virigina Cavaliers, 38-34 in The Backyard Brawl.
  • The Washington State Cougars defeated their in-state rival Washington Huskies, 24-19 in The Apple Cup.

The Play of the Week goes to Sacred Heart Pioneers.

A beautiful, one-handed grab in the back of the endzone, and he got a foot down.

Sacred Heart got a massive, blowout win on Homecoming Weekend. Beating Georgetown Hoyas 40-14.

There are some BIG games upcoming in Week 4, and I can not wait to see them.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
