The Reds visit Citi Field to take on the Mets for a three game series. The Mets have won 7 in a row coming into the series. The Reds are fresh off of sweeping the Houston Astros and are fighting to keep a Wild Card chance alive.

Game 1:

Sean Manaea gets the start for the Mets versus Fernando Cruz being the Reds opener. The Mets would jump out early on a Mark Vientos 2 run home run. Mets lead early 2-0. In the 4th, Elly De La Cruz would hit his 23rd home run of the season, a two run homer, the game is tied at 2.

In the 6th, José Iglesias would single off Buck Farmer, Pete Alonso would score from 2nd, Mets regain the lead 3-2. J.D Martinez would follow up Iglesias with a single, Iglesias would score from second, Mets lead 4-2. In the 7th, TJ Friedl would tie the game with a 2 run home run off Manaea.

In the 9th inning, the Diaz brothers would each toss a shut out inning, this game is headed to extra innings. Jose Butto would get Santiago Espinal to ground out in the 10th, the Mets escape the inning. In the bottom of the 10th, Mark Vientos would launch his second home run of the game, the Mets walk off Justin Wilson and the Reds, Mets win 6-4.

The Reds lack of starting pitching depth is glaring and the bullpen is over worked. Brandon Williamson pitched 4.2 innings in relief of Cruz, only allowing 1 hit and 1 earned run. With Elly De La Cruz’s home run, he tied the Reds franchise record for most home runs as a switch hitter in a season with Felipe Lopez at 23.

Game 2:

Jakob Jukis is making just his 3rd start of the season, he faces off against José Quintana for New York. Both Pitchers were dealing and good defense was on display. The Mets turned 2 slick double plays to shut down the Reds offense. Quintana would go 6.2 innings of 5 hit baseball. He would strike out 6 and walk 2. Jakob Junis would go 5 innings of 1 hit baseball, allowing only 1 walk and striking out 5. In the 6th, Sam Moll would relive Junis and would get roughed up. Harrison Bader would take Moll deep, Mets take the lead 1-0. Moll would walk Francisco Lindor, hit Brandon Nimo, and Pete Alonso would single up the middle off Carson Spiers to score Lindor from second. J.D Martinez would lift a double to left, Mets lead 4-0. Edwin Diaz would escape a jam in the 9th, as the Mets win 4-0.

Game 3:

Julian Aguiar gets the start for the Reds against Luis Severino. Aguiar had a nice bounce back start last time out compared to his home debut where he would shelled by the A’s. Aguiar would pitch well today. He would escape a jam in the 4th to keep the game scoreless. In the 6th, the Mets would get on the board on a Starling Marte RBI single, the Mets lead 1-0. Emilio Pagán would relive Santillan and escape a runners on 2nd and 3rd jam. In the 7th, Noelvi Marte would hit a broken bat single to right, that scores Jake Fraley from 2nd and the Reds tie the game at 1.

in the top of the 9th, the hot bat of Santiago Espinal stays hot as he hits a 2 RBI double, giving the Reds a 3-1 lead late. Alexis Diaz would go 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 9th as the Reds end the Mets 9 game winning streak and avoid being swept.

Julian Aguiar would pitch 4.2 innings of scoreless baseball, allowing only 2 hits and striking out 2.

The Reds go to Atlanta to make up a rain out from earlier this season. Nick Martinez is slated to start versus Charlie Morton. Following Mondays makeup game, the Reds will travel to St. Louis to take on the Cardinals on Tuesday. Rhett Lowder is scheduled to start for the Reds against Andre Pallante. This will be Rhett Lowder’s first career road start in MLB.
