The Reds travel to PNC park in Pittsburgh to finish up this current road trip against the Pirates. The Reds are coming off a series win in Toronto for the first time in franchise history. The Reds signed Dominic Smith prior to Thursdays game and placed Jake Fraley on the 10 day IL.
Game 1:
Paul Skenes gets the start for Pittsburgh vs Nick Lodolo. Both starters were pitching well through the first 4 innings. Lodolo had 8 K’s through 4 and Skenes had 7 through 5. Lodolo would run into trouble in the bottom of the 5th. A walk, wild pitch advances the runner to 2nd. Grandal would strikeout. Lodolo would walk the next batter and hit the next, loading the bases. Bryan Reynolds would hit a grounder up the middle, the runner would run through the bag at second. Santiago Espinal would throw the ball to 3rd, causing a run down but all runners would be safe. A run would score. Pirates lead 1-0. Lodolo would hit the next batter Joey Bart scoring another run. Jakob Junis would relieve Lodolo and promptly give up a bases clearing double to Bryan De La Cruz, Pirates lead 5-0. Oneil Cruz would single in De La Cruz, Pirates lead 6-0. In the 6th, Yasmani Grandal would hit a solo home run off Junis, Pirates lead 7-0. Pittsburgh would go on to win 7-0.
Nick Lodolo would only go 4.2 innings, he would strikeout 9, but 3 walks and a couple hit batters would be the difference maker.

Game 2:
The Reds are going with an opener on Friday. Cincinnati is short staffed on starting pitching after placing Andrew Abbott on the IL with shoulder soreness. Buck Farmer would go 2 innings without giving up a hit and striking out 2. The Reds would not allow a hit through the first 4 innings. The Reds would strike first in the first on a Tyler Stephenson solo home run. Reds lead 1-0.
The Reds would get another run in the 4th following a Tyler Stephenson single and Spencer Steer double. Ty France lifted a sac fly to right, scoring Tyler Stephenson. 2-0 Reds. Later in the inning, Stuart Fairchild would lay down a squeeze bunt, scoring Spencer Steer, Reds lead 3-0.
Ahmed Rosario would hit a single to right, advancing Fairchild to third and Santiago Espinal would hit them both in on a single to left, but would be thrown out trying to advance to 2nd. The Reds would run into trouble when David Bell would elect to bring out Alan Busenitz in the 5th. Busenitz would allow 4 runs (3 earned) on 4 hits. Aroldis Chapman would strikeout the side in the 8th and a potential rally would come up short, Pirates win 6-5 on 6 unanswered runs by the Pirates.

Game 3:
Barry Bonds was inducted into the Pirates Hall of Fame on Saturday afternoon prior to the game. Julian Aguiar gets his 2nd career start in Pittsburgh against Jake Woodford for the Pirates. The Reds would jump out early, Elly De La Cruz would walk and steal 2nd. Tyler Stephenson would walk, and TJ Friedl would hit an RBI single scoring De La Cruz and would claim 2nd on the throw to 3rd. Spencer Steer would hit a 2 RBI double, scoring Stephenson and Friedl.
After a Spencer Steer stolen base of third, Ty France would hit a sacrifice fly to score Steer, Reds lead 4-0. In the 2nd, the Pirates would get 2 on a 2 run home run off the bat of Rowdy Tellez, Reds lead 4-2. In the 4th, Dominic Smith would get his first hit as a Red, he would advance on a sac fly, and score on a Will Benson ball that was scored an error hit 104 mph. With runners on first and second, Elly De La Cruz would single to right, scoring Benson, advancing India to 3rd and Elly would take 2nd on the throw to 3rd.
Later, both runners would score on a wild pitch, Reds lead 8-2. In the 6th, Jonathan India would hit a single to center, advance to 2nd on an error, and Elly De La Cruz would double India in and be followed by Tyler Stephenson hitting De La Cruz in, Reds lead 10-2.
Carson Kelly, who was promoted prior to the game, would pitch 3 hitless innings earning his first career save and securing Julian Aguiar his first career win as the Reds win 10-2.
Julian Aguiar was really good Saturday night, he would go 6 innings allow 3 hits, 2 runs on the Tellez home run, walk 2 and strikeout 4.

Game 4:
Nick Martinez gets the start in the finale against Luis Ortiz for Pittsburgh. Ortiz would pitch himself out of trouble, keeping the Reds off the board. Joey Bart would get the Pirates on the board in the 1st, on an RBI groundout. Pirates lead 1-0 after 1. The Pirates would extend their lead in the 3rd on a Bryan Reynolds RBI single, Pirates lead 2-0 after 3. The Reds would put their rally together going in the 7th. Elly De La Cruz would hit a RBI single, cutting the lead to 1. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, TJ Friedl would reach safely on a bunt, scoring the runner from 3rd, the game is tied at 2.
Spencer Steer would walk, putting the Reds up 3-2. In the 9th, Aroldis Chapman would strikeout TJ Friedl, and pick off Elly De La Cruz in a scoreless top of the 9th, Reds lead 3-2 going into the bottom of the 9th. With 1 out, Reds closer Alexis Diaz would hit Bryan De La Cruz, putting the tying run on 1st. Yasmani Grandal would make Diaz pay, hitting a two run walk off home run, Pirates win 4-3 and take 3 out of 4 against the Reds.
Nick Martinez would pitch 3 innings, allow 5 hits 1 run and strikeout 1. Carson Spiers and Emilio Pagán would pitch 5 scoreless innings before Alexis Diaz would blow the save.

The Reds have lost 3 out of 4 in Pittsburgh, putting their roadtrip record to 3-4. Hunter Greene received positive news on his elbow injury, saying it’s just swelling and his UCL looks great. The Reds are off Monday and will play a 3 game series vs Oakland back at home starting Tuesday.
