On the undercard of last nights Top Rank Boxing event, featuring Christian Mbilli vs Sergiy Derevyanchenko, promising lightweight prospect Abdullah Mason quickly dispatched Mike “Bad Man” Ohan Jr (19-3, 9 KOs) in the second round.

In the first round, Mason calmly attacked Ohan’s body with a straight left and an uppercut. After landing a powerful right hook to the head, Mason followed up with a flurry of punches. With seconds left in the round, Mason’s left uppercut sent Ohan to the canvas, though Ohan managed to survive until the bell.

The second round of the scheduled 8-round bout saw Mason use foot feints before scoring another knockdown with a double jab followed by a straight left. As Ohan attempted to stand, his corner threw in the towel.

Mason took control from the start, preventing Ohan from finding his rhythm. The 20-year-old came in with the intention of securing an early victory, which he achieved in less than two rounds. Despite being considered a step up in competition, the 30-year-old Mike Ohan Jr, a capable fighter with a solid boxing background, proved to be no match for Mason.

Mason demonstrated poise, superior skills, ring IQ, and that killer instinct to finish opponents early. It’s time we drop the term “prospect”, and call this young man what he is, a contender.

Abdullah Mason (15-0, 13 KOs) maintains his undefeated record after his fourth victory of 2024. The Cleveland, Ohio native aims to fit in a fifth fight in November, with plans to headline a homecoming event in early 2025.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
