Anticipation has been building for some time of Caleb Williams taking the field in a Chicago Bears uniform. On Sunday the Bears and their passionate fans got a taste of that experience.
Williams completed 2 drives with a stat sheet of 4/7 95 yards and 13 rushing yards. Williams impressed many with his poise, elusiveness and decisiveness of where to go with the ball. The highlight play being a rollout to his right and throw to Cole Kmet that went for 26 yards.
Sure, were there some rookie moments yes. Williams was late on a out route and threw it when the defender was in perfect position for a pick if not for a flag for illegal contact. He could have avoided a hold on his first pass when checking down to Rome Odunze instead of rolling out causing a flag and backing them up 10 yards but everything that came advertised about Williams showed up on Sunday in route to a 33-6 blowout.
Bears fans have long endured atrocious QB play. Mitchell Trubisky was a #2 pick who never really had much moxy. Justin Fields was electric on the ground but limited through the air. Williams presents a eccentric personality, athleticism, and uncanny throwing angles that can dazzle and make a defense uncomfortable. All it will take will be time but if he delivers on his potential it should be a fun time in Chicago.
