The Reds traveled to Miami Florida to take on the Miami Marlins. Miami gutted their team at the deadline, shipping off players like Jazz Chisholm, Trever Rogers, Bryan De La Cruz, and more leaving their current payroll at $15 million. The Reds come off a rough series against the Giants at home, being no hit in the series opener.
Game 1:
Starting pitcher Roddery Muñoz is on the mound for Miami against Nick Martinez for the Reds on his 34th birthday. The Reds jumped out early in the 1st. Elly De La Cruz launched his 19th home run of the season, a 2 run dinger, giving the Redlegs a 2-0 lead.
In the 3rd, Elly De La Cruz would reach 3rd after a pair of errors allowed Jonathan India to score from first base. Elly would later score on a sacrifice fly by TJ Friedl. In the 4th, Noelvi Marte would hit his 3rd home run of the season, giving the Reds a 6-0 lead. Marte put together a solid game in this one, having more productive at bats and loud contact. Marte even made a nice defensive play later in the game. Marte has been putting in a lot of work in the field and in batting practice working on timing.
Later in the 4th, Elly De La Cruz would smoke a double to the right field wall, his 3rd time on base in as many times. India would be thrown out on the contact play. In the 5th, Ty France would get his first home run as a Red, to deep center field, giving Cincinnati a 7-0 advantage. In the bottom of the 6th, Jakob Junis would replace Nick Martinez after 5 scoreless innings and give up the longest home run in the Majors this season to Jesús Sánchez, 480 feet near the top row of the 2nd deck, Reds lead 7-1. The Marlins would score 2 more in the 7th, on a double play and an RBI single by Jonah Bride to cut the Reds lead to 7-3. In the 8th, Elly De La Cruz said give me one more, crushes a solo home run to deep right field, extending the Reds lead to 8-3.
Jake Fraley would hit a 2 run double in the 9th and the Reds go on to win 10-3.
Nick Martinez would pitch well in his first start since May 22nd vs San Diego. Martinez would go 5 innings, allow 4 hits, strike out 5 with no walks. Elly De La Cruz is the 2nd Red ever with 2 doubles and 2 home runs in the same game. Every hit by Elly was over 108 mph.

Game 2:
Nick Lodolo looks to bounce back after a couple of tough starts. He would take on Max Meyer for Miami. Tyler Stephenson would get the Reds on the scoreboard first with a solo home run in the first.
In the third, Elly De La Cruz would stay red hot by roping to right, he would later score on a TJ Friedl double. Reds lead 2-0. The Reds would load the bases in the fourth and Elly De La Cruz would crush another double, this time to left field, scoring two and the Reds now lead 4-0. TJ Friedl would follow later with a sacrifice fly, scoring India to extend the Reds lead to 5-0. Tyler Stepenson would follow Friedl with a RBI single to give the Reds a 6-0 lead. The Marlins would score 2 off Lodolo in the bottom of the 4th. Ty France would hit his 2nd home run in as many games in the 5th, extending the Redlegs lead to 5.
Neither team would score again until the 8th, Spencer Steer would drive in Noelvi Marte on an error by the 1st baseman, Elly De La Cruz would advance 1st to 3rd on an infield error. Sam Moll would pitch a scoreless 9th and the Reds win 8-2.
Nick Lodolo bounced back nicely in this one going 6 innings, allowing 2 hits, 2 runs, 7k’s and 3 walks. Elly De La Cruz has been scoring hot this series, having 8 hits in 2 games.

Game 3:
Andrew Abbott looks to rebound off a rough patch of starts. Abbott has allowed the most home runs this season. Valente Bellozo gets the start for Miami.
Jake Burger would take Abbott deep twice Wednesday. Once in the 1st for a solo shot, and again in the 5th. Derek Hill would take Abbott deep in the 1st inning for a grand slam. Marlins lead 5-0 after 1. The Reds would be held in check by Bellozo and would finally get on the board in the 7th on TJ Friedl’s first career grand slam. Reds trail 6-4.
The Reds would rally in the 9th, but would ultimately fall short and lose the 3rd game 6-4. Not a lot of offense for the Reds until they got to the Marlins bullpen on Wednesday. Abbott falls to 9-9 with a 3.70 ERA on the year after keeping it to almost 3.00 most of the beginning of the season. Abbotts’ ERA for his career in August and September (last year) is up over 7.

Game 4:
Hunter Greene looks to continue his dominance Thursday night and put the Reds in a position to win 3 out of 4 on the road in Miami. Greene would carry a scoreless streak for 24.1 consecutive innings before allowing a run on Thursday. Elly De La Cruz would advance to 3rd from 1st on a wild pitch and a throwing error by the Marlins catcher in the first and would score on a Tyler Stephenson groundout. Later in the 1st. TJ Friedl would blast his 2nd home run of the series and extend the Reds lead to 2-0.
Friedl would later hit a RBI single in the 3rd, scoring Jonathan India to extend Cincinnati’s lead to 3-0. Hunter Greene allowed his first run in 24.1 innings in the 4th, 3 runs in total as the Marlins tie the game at 3. Neither team would score as this game would go to extra innings. The Reds would bust the game open in the 10th. The Reds would load the bases and Tyler Stephenson would walk, scoring Stuart Fairchild from 3rd to give the Reds a 4-3 lead.
Next batter TJ Friedl would be hit by a pitch, scoring another run. Later, Spencer Steer would hit a broken bat single into left, scoring Elly De La Cruz, Reds lead 6-3. Later Jeimer Candelario would hit a 2 RBI single to right, giving the Reds a 8-3 lead. The Reds would go on to score 2 more in the 10th. One on a dropped ball in the outfield and another on a Stuart Fairchild sacrifice fly, Reds lead 10-3. The Marlins would get 1 back in the bottom of the 10th, but would fall short. Reds win the game 10-4 and the series 3-1.
Hunter Greene would pitch a solid game. He would go 6 innings, allow 3 runs on 6 hits, walk 2 and strike out 5. The Reds bullpen would only allow 3 hits.

Elly De La Cruz had a phenomenal series. He would have 11 hits in 4 games and cause chaos on the base paths as usual. Elly is beginning to show the contact potential he showed along with his spectacular power and speed combination as well as his much improved plate discipline.
The Reds travel to Milwaukee to take on their division rival Brewers. Carson Spiers will get the start against Aaron Civale. The Reds look to stay alive in the Wild Card standings, a good series versus the Brewers could jumpstart a late season run at a playoff birth.
