Sheng-En Lin

The Reds signed Sheng-En Lin on June 5th, 2023 out of Taiwan as a 17 year old two way prospect. His Fastball was clocked at 99 mph. Sheng-En Lin signed for $1.2 million and is currently the number 21 ranked prospect in the Reds farm system. Lin has above average speed, average power potential and average to above average contact. The Reds are currently using Sheng-En Lin primarily as a position player in the Arizona Complex League.

The Reds have not completely ruled out the possibility of him being a 2 way player. In his first season, he is currently performing very well. In 48 games in the ACL, Sheng-En Lin has a line of .314/.424/.426. He’s been splitting time between 3rd base and the shortstop, primarily playing 3rd base. At just 18 years old, Lin might play himself into a promotion to low A Daytona this year with his performance in the ACL. I’m personally intrigued to see if the Reds do pursue the 2 way route with Lin, he has a very lively fastball that gets close to triple digits and could be developed into a quality major league pitcher.

Sheng-En Lin has made a personal goal of reaching the Major Leagues in 5 years. 1 year in, I do not doubt that he could make that a reality. The Reds love his game and his character. Lin had multiple offers from Major League teams and Japanese teams in 2023 so the Reds did what they had to do to get Lin in Cincinnati. This front office sees a player that could be apart of a core crop of young players in the next 4-8 years that hopefully leads this franchise into a new era of Cincinnati Reds baseball and just maybe, that long overdue World Series Championship ownership promised when the team was purchased by the Castellini group in 2006.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
